  • I am not sure adding more teams (even grabbing the Atlanta market) is in the B1G's best interest... but hastening the collapse of the ACC and forcing ND's hand may be worth it.

It seems clear that the path forward is 4 super-conferences and an end to the NCAA. The conference championship games would effectively become quarterfinals.

    • Personally, I think Delaney is after additions that add territory and make the B10 a hoops powerhouse. I think that's the tipping point entry into NYC and even DC.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kansas, NC and Duke join IU to give the B10 an incomparable top tier, with Maryland, M, MSU, Illinois and Ohio State as second tier teams.

As far as it concerns ND, since it is the ND thread, they can maybe save the ACC, but won't. After that, I don't give a flying fuck what they do. They can crawl to Delaney or not.

      • 16 is where I'd like to stop, my 'preferences' are Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Those two states become B10 states. Little worried about VT's football success post Beamer, whenever he retires. They also aren't AAU but do a great deal of research. I don't think they are on the B10's radar... Would be nice if Virginia could put together a B10 caliber football program or else they'd be #1 on the B10's list...

Don't like adding GT but they are probably the best tv 'market' that is available.

Some rumors; NC is ready to go but undecided where among the B10, SEC. They have their choice and aren't tied to NC State as some allege. Not sure if they'd like to bring along Duke or not but most think so. Everything is hinging on Maryland's exit fee, ACC could implode almost immediately after that is announced.

        • I'd love to see Michigan come down here and play every few years. I'd have tickets for sure!! Never thought North Carolina would be called B1G country.

          • GTech not so much ... if GTech even an AAU institution?
Hmmm. Yes, they are AAU, and they're highly regarded. Taking the USNWR ratings, they're #7 for public universities and #36 overall, better than anyone in the B10 other than NW and M.

UVa, UNC and GT would be a tremendous coup in terms of academics.

              • The academics folks want the Big 10. The AD, several big boosters and some key administrators want the SEC. The first choice is a viable ACC though. The legislature and the GOP assholes in it will try to fuck us by hanging Cow College around our necks. The SEC will take Dook in a package with us.

                • Ok, I stand corrected then. I never knew GTech was such an academic powerhouse ... I guess they are in areas outside of medicine.

                  • yes, SEC and B1G should collude to divide and conquer and put the ACC out its misery. Maybe we can send Ohio to the SEC as part of the deal. Doesn't Northern Kentucky have a natural rivalry with UK?

But of course...two weeks worth of unsolicited and unsubstantiated conjecture about Notre Dame is a clear indication that one doesn't give a flying fuck about Notre Dame...

I vaguely remember answering questions you posed over the past few weeks, but the conversation has focused on the demise of the ACC. But whatever. Color me bored with your schtick. Sorry "your" conference is for shit.

I respond once and you’re bored of my schtick…? My schtick was to bite my tongue in the interests of discussion. Excuse me if I find that a bit self-serving…

                          • I'm bored of your schtick - pretending that we're all so interested in Notre Dame. I don't give a flying fuck what ND when it comes to expansion. They can crawl to Delaney or not.

All of your quotes concern the ACC and its likelihood of survival. Which was the specific topic at hand. You can't really talk about the ACC's chances of survival without at least mentioning Notre Dame (or North Carolina or others). Apparently that means I really care a shit-ton about ND. Grow up.

As for my quotes, if you consider a position that ND will NOT join a confernece as full-time member as rank speculation, then, LMAO. I base those statements on decades of actions and comments.

Right about now I'm quite sorry I answered YOUR SOLICITED questions about expansion if only because it apparently contributes to your sense of grandeur.

FYI, so we're crystal fucking clear -- what I care about is who comes aboard the B10. I've written off ND, long ago, as ever joining the B10. Nor, for that matter, do I think Texas will ever join, so I don't care what they do, either. The options I care about is how Delaney chooses to carve the ACC up. I'm also intrigued by Kansas and how they may work out of their GoR to potentially come aboard. I'm interested in the potential for the premiere basketball conference of all-time, the greatest collection of academic universities in the world and a football conference that boasts 4 ginormous names.

In any event, I'll consider this topic closed for this thread lest there be any mistaking what I care about. It belongs on the CFB thread anyway.

                            • Can't deny that from the ND fan's perspective, we are pretty interested. There are maybe 2 or 3 non-SEC teams in the country that would cause a Michigan fan to root for Alabama in this upcoming game. Maybe just 1.

                              • Royal we, sure -- in the game. Personally, I have next to zero interest in it. I may watch parts of the first half, but I know there's no way I'm watching the 2nd half. I wish both teams could lose, and that can't happen. I'm out of all my bowl pools, so I have zero interest in that. And whatever I bet on, it won't be enough to keep me up. So, meh for me, at least.

Then again, I guess a post here about the BCS title games proves my absolute, monumental interest in the game, in particular ND.
