  • Mike - I don't believe there was a whistle, because that's not a reviewable call. The fact that the play went to review, shows that a whistle (inadvertent or otherwise) was not part of the scenario. Had there been a whistle stopping forward progress, the WH could have bailed the crew out by stating that the play was blown dead .. game over. Either that, or the guy who blew the whistle had to man up and admit he had a IW, which opens a whole 'nother can of worms.

I still believe the ball crossed the goal line, and the review official should have corrected the on-field call. This is supposedly why replay was instituted. To correct errors on the field.

Not so today. The replay official must owe a favor to someone at ND.

    • The refs handed OSU the game in EL? Eh, whatever. Still doesn't change ND being.shit.

And to be clear, I don't think OSU is worth a shit, nor do I have a fucking clue what their game against MSU has to do with ND. I do think.ND is shit. Period.

      • And it was an obvious TD, and WTF with the personal foul to salvage ND's final regulation drive.

Would that play go to the replay booth on a whistle?

Bad stuff coming my way...? I've been listening to you fucking nit-wits trash Notre Dame for over a decade...most of the time deservingly so. Now that we're fielding a competitive team I'm supposed to heed your input?

            • That wouldn't surprise me, Rocky.

And I find myself agreeing with Mr. Talent again. That was a horses**t call for the PF. I don't understand how the official could fairly throw that flag when there was no way the defender could have avoided the blow. He was already making his move to hit the ball carrier when he went down.

You don't believe there was a whistle because you don't have shit otherwise. Again, you asked me to acknowledge your interpretation, while you clearly ignore players that stopped blocking and started celebrating. Not very objective for a linesman.

                • Mike, I'm telling you. If there was a whistle, it makes the whole thing easier for the crew. The WH simply announces that the whistle blew, halting the play, and the runner did not cross the goal line. Game Over. And, nobody could have argued with him. The whistle ends the play. Period. That's why an inadvertent whistle is so bad, because it usually destroys a great play by the offense. So, thats why I know there was no "whistle" issue at the end. Otherwise it would NOT have gone to replay.

You guys got a bone tossed your way today. You still have a lot of football to play. And, if you really are a great team, Alabama will be waiting for you.

                  Good luck with that.

Heed my input? No. But if you believe that stuff comes back around ND is due for some now.

                    Whistle irrelevant per Mike Perreira.

I don't think the play would go upstairs on a whistle or a ruling of stopped forward progress. It was just a blown call by the replay officials.

                    • Tell ya what…I’m not going to sit here and justify shit to you…a decent season has simply been too long in coming. Plus you sound like a bunch of little bitches lashing out bitterly. Will leave you with this...

                      1) 1) All of you have loudly and repeatedly touted at one point or another about how “irrelevant” ND is. Nonetheless, you all were obviously glued to the game and now have sand in your pussies about it. So you’re not exactly standing from a point of credibility.

                      2) 2) Stanford got their breaks. We had three turnovers. We fucked up snaps that woulda/coulda/shoulda garnered points. We were called for more than double our number of penalties per game. We got fucked on a blown replay where Golson clearly stepped out of bounds before a fumble in the red-zone. In short, we played a terribly sloppy game and were still in it.

                      3) 3) It’s not “luck” that a defense that hasn’t given up a touchdown in four straight games…didn’t give up a touchdown. And lest you forget…if…IF…the replay was called the other way and Stanford had scored on that CUNT HAIR of a fraction…they simply would have tied the game…not won it. Given our almost 200 second half yards to Stanford’s < 100, I like our chances.

So anyhoo…I’m out. Gonna enjoy the night. Would strongly suggest that you wash that sand out of your labia and do the same…otherwise, you’re just providing a great deal of relief that we did the right thing by tossing all those B1G invites in the garbage…because you all, sans Buchanan, sound like a bunch of whiney little bitches.

                      • In the karma department, an important distinction must be made between the terrible fluky TOs from last year's night game and bad calls. Bad calls are an injustice. That said, and even despite the luck of the friggin' Irish, Clash is right that he's due to enjoy some success, and he won't be the first to be doing it in part thanks to refs.

                        • He's not lucky. He's tremendously attuned to what his players can and cannot do. Prozac will do that.
Jeff---that is quite possibly the most insightful post I've ever seen on this forum! At very least, slam-dunk post of the month, anyway...

All that out of the way, I'm inclined to let Clash have his day and celebrate. Sure, we all know what we saw and what the replay booth inexplicably didn't see, but f*** it, it's water over the dam at this point.

Anyway, I'd rather enjoy the Tigers and channel surfing to CFB night games between innings than get in a pissing match with Clash right now. Besides, he's a good sport most of the time around here, as he puts up with a lot of grief (without complaint most of the time) flying solo as the only ND fan on this board.

                            • I guess its okay if Mike lets his hair down a bit tonight. His Irish have been down for a long time, and they're thinking MNC right now. Its not going to happen of course, but who are we to rain on their parade?

I still think the review booth got it wrong by rule, but what do I know ... I'm only a HS official ....

And Mike ... I understand that had the correct (in my mind) ruling been made, that there was still an XP to be made, and that would have only gotten into a 2nd overtime.

But all that does is leave it at "we'll never know".

Maybe .. the Irish win anyway in the 2nd overtime ... but ... we'll never know.

Maybe .. Stanford would have won in the 2nd overtime ... but ... we'll never know.

This is supposedly why replay was instituted. So that controversies like this would be solved on the field. Today, in my mind, and in the minds of many others, the replay system failed.

But, that's fine. Its counted as a ND win, and we go on from here ... with our own opinions.
