Mike - I don't believe there was a whistle, because that's not a reviewable call. The fact that the play went to review, shows that a whistle (inadvertent or otherwise) was not part of the scenario. Had there been a whistle stopping forward progress, the WH could have bailed the crew out by stating that the play was blown dead .. game over. Either that, or the guy who blew the whistle had to man up and admit he had a IW, which opens a whole 'nother can of worms.
I still believe the ball crossed the goal line, and the review official should have corrected the on-field call. This is supposedly why replay was instituted. To correct errors on the field.
Not so today. The replay official must owe a favor to someone at ND.
