Right?just to clarify, my previous characterization of Talent?s bait as ?weak?, that was based on the sum of material provided at the time. In consideration of Rocky?s recent submission, I would now call Talent?s postings shrewd and clever, though flippant. The above is pretty weak.
But true, despite your characterization...
I'll let you ban hate speech when you let me define hate speech.
Well of course it?s ?true?. My characterization did not dispute that?it simply mocked and belittled it.
After all, it?s ?true?:
In the same way that saying ?the sky is blue? is ?true??
In the same way that saying ?grass is green? is ?true??
In the same way that any entity taking action to achieve an objective in its own best interests will always ?take the path of least resistance?? is ?true??
In fact, I can?t think of a lot of examples in CFB where the decision was made not to take the path of least resistance?hmmmm?
Wait a minute! How about Bo stubbornly kicking to Rocket Ismail in ?89? How?d that work out?
Again?at least Talent mixed in some applicable commentary & analysis?your bait was truly weak.
It's something that I wouldn't address on any other thread, but on this page, I reserve the right to respond to conjecture with conjecture.
Two years ago during all the conference upheaval, I very clearly remember going on record as saying that I believed ND football would be in a conference in the next 2-5 years...because you guys delete threads, I cannot find it now...nonetheless, the conventional wisdom at the time was that everybody was moving towards four, sixteen team "superconferences" that would force ND's hand.
As it turns out, I think the recently agreed four team playoff that doesn't require a conference championship (thanks SEC) gave ND a window to remain independent.
Also, as Talent pointed out up thread, the ACC was in a tough position. Not that they (obviously) needed ND non-football sports...but that they needed to stabilize. Again, I believe it is the $50+ million buyout that was the ACC's objective behind this deal...
I'm pleased to see Clash finally acknowledge my work as the platinum standard for excellence in achieving excellent excellence. PLATINUM, Baby! Bling that, bitches!
So, I'm actually undecided as to who root against more in this shitfest. My guiding principle has always been the school that needs humbled the most. Of course, over the past 3-4 seasons the standard may have been more accurately, "which team was beaten and humiliated slightly less?"
I was almost certain I would be rooting for ND this year. But, I think it may be a closer call than originally anticipated.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Correct. Though, I'm also inclined to give the ACC long-term hopes some credence. Huge buyout + ND in for all other sports + superconference potential = legitimate chance ND is forced into the ACC. Not immediately, but long-term. And I think ND knows it. The 5 ACC games are incrementalism. What's 3 more? They can still go to California every year and play a service academy.

Heh... Is that what I did? Really...?

Why...? Because we had that fight about Navy and the option? Surely you aren't under the impression that I'm going to court your support...
...I doubt I could compete with Buchanan anyway...

Can't argue with that at all...but I would have to think, or perhaps hope, that Swarbrick wrote something in there that would give ND at least some measure of discretion if push came to shove. Changing the terms of a deal...any deal would/could/should include changing the terms to get out of a deal.

No, because M has been humiliated by The Nick, and Hanni and a few others are in Defcon-5 mode. Now, that all changes with a win on Saturday. Then the Genius of Hokattison ascends. And I'm not sure how many more losses M has left with the shitfest of the B10.
Notre Dame is now "back" -- or so some think. A win over M would surely crank up the hype machine to intolerable levels. Now, I still think ND has 2-3 losses, at least, on their schedule, so things would correct back to the norm, or at least what has been the norm for the past 15 years.
So, it's a tough call. All in all, I think I'd rather deal with nonsensical ND hype and see M eat the 2nd of what I hope will be at least 4 losses. ND will get placeput soon enough.
Heh... Is that what I did? Really...?
Yes, yes you did.

Dammit. I hate the inverse numerical systems. F that noise.
For cycling, it starts with category 4 hills and goes down. Well, they ran into hills that were much harder than category 1, so they just call those off-category. Bullshit, I say.
I'm certain Defcon-1 is inadequate to describe Hanni's outlook if ND romps on Saturday. But that's all I'll have. Can I use Defcon - (-17) or something?

I can recall being pleased with a M win on 3 occasions. When they beat Alabama in the Orange Bowl, when they beat ND in 2006 and when LC won his final game.
I'm not sure, exactly, why I wanted M to win the Orange Bowl. That's a bit of a mystery to me. The other two aren't. ND needed placeput and humiliated in the worst kind of way in 2006. I thought OSU's demolition job in the 2005 Fiesta would have been good enough, but it didn't take. As for LC's final game, LC, after giving us 7 fantastic seasons, deserved to go out with a win! And F Florida.
