So from your view would Kiel be a candidate for red shirt, or is he looking to compete this fall?
I'm sure Kiel is coming in thinking he should compete for the fall...but I hope not. Golson was an early entry...so both he and Hendrix will have had two off-seasons. Golson a full season and Hendrix two full seasons.

My point is that we've got serious issues developing QBs if Kiel is able to come in and start this fall.

In other news, the Armstead brothers aren't coming...at least not yet, which probably works against ND. So be it. It's WRs & CBs that will make the biggest contribution to our roster.

          • congrats, Clash on grabbing Neal.
When he delayed announcing, I thought the Pope may have pulled out some late wizardry.

Davonte Neal, ranked No. 8 overall in the ESPNU 150, ended up committing to Notre Dame over Arizona, Arkansas and North Carolina on Tuesday from his former elementary school, Kyrene de la Esperanza.

            • What's with the standing up of elementary school kids, though? I hope there's a reasonable explanation.

Of course, committing in front of elementary school children is insanely stupid in it's own right, but that's what recruiting has become these days. Kind of wonder what school administrators were thinking in agreeing to such a skit.

                • They said it was due to a "family emergency"; take it for what it's worth I guess.

He tried to commit to OSU on NLOID and was refused. Something went pretty awry on the in-home visit. So, now ND has a kid that OSU didn't want to take b/c of non-performance things, and OSU has a kid ND wouldn't take because of non-performance things.

                    • You got both Schutt & Perkins who wanted to go to ND (then Michigan) but were turned down by both.

                      Comment

                      • Yes, but Perkins wasn't turned down by ND because of numbers or talent. It was because of something else. And, from what I've read, OSU was Perkins big leader after ND kicked him to the curb even though OSU was recruiting him as LB. He may have visited M, but he wouldn't have committed. Unlike Schutt. Both of whom are steals, but Perkins is an f'n freak.

Neal wasn't turned down by OSU because of numbers or talent either. That's why I made the Perkins:Neal comparison.

Schutt is just a really weird recruiting case. I love the way it went. Remarkably fortunate for OSU.

                        • Strange, indeed. Especially when you consider how thin and bereft of good football players Michigan is at that position. And we didn't even end up with a full class.

                              • Oh, yeah. Meh, Jimmy crack corn and I don't care. Honestly, what I think happened with Schutt was that he's not a camp player. His measurables aren't eye-popping. But then when he plays, either in Illinois for at whatever AA combine he was at, he is really, really good.

There was nothing wrong with him "off the field." I honestly think ND and M were nonplussed with him talent-wise regardless of Rivals/Scout ranking. Ohio State, e.g., hasn't offered Mike McCray, who Rivals considers a top 45 player. Not only that, they've offered several other LBs, including another Ohio kid. Nonplussed? I dunno.
