    • Mike- are you Off Tackle from the World Xing days?

      • OT , Howe should have told the Wings to stick it, he didn't. The 6-team League was run exclusively by the owners, for every guy playing in the "bigs" there were two waiting in the minors to replace him.....end of discussion.

Hank has won a single Cup in 2008 with Detroit, got your money's worth? What he has accomplished pales in comparison to most franchise players.

        • Hank has one more Cup than all Canadian teams combined in the past 20 years.

          • Wow Paul, your are obviously mentally retarded, so I will go easy.

The NHL has become a North American Enterprise, where a particular player draws a paycheck has become immaterial. But for your edification, wherever the Stanley Cup has been won, it has been by a CANADIAN MAJORITY AND YOU ARE WELCOME.

For Example: Boston Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup Champions

            Roster
            16 -CDN
            2 -USA
            1 -CZK
            1 -SVK
            1 -GDR
            1-FIN

It's always been our Game, Lord Stanley was our Governor General, our Cup now STFU.

            • Well....Datsyuk was "drafted" #1 for the All-Star game.......I guess his peers think he's pretty good, despite not being a West Greenlander.....;-)

That's the rumor. You're understandably upset that no franchise from the glorious Great White North has been able to hoist Lord Stanley in quite some time.

It's fun to pick and choose certain years to support your argument, so I'll play along and select the Wings most recent Cup season, '08, where 20 of the 32 on the playoff roster were American or European.
Of these 12 Canadians, such illustrious contributors as:
                Kyle Quincey
                Derek Meech
                Dallas Drake
                Aaron Downey
                Kris Draper
                Kirk Maltby
                and Mark Hartigen

No Mark Hartigen? No f'in Cup.

                • Datsyuk was picked by Zdeno Chara...a Slovak. The first pick for the other team? Erik Karlsson......a Swede.....drafted by another Swede......Alfredsson. The NHL is an International League......great players are from around the world....not just north of the "Boarder"........;-)
As a Country, North North Dakota is assuredly the country by which all others are measured when it comes to Hockey. But, if you wanna stand aside Don Cherry as to the wordlwide talent level, and ability of non-Canadiac players....carry on OP!

To be fair...Maltby, Draper and Drake were integral parts of that team.

                    • Pick & Choose?

Paul, Although the Cup was first awarded in 1893, the "modern' NHL has won it exclusively since 1917.

From it's modern inception (1917) there has NEVER been a Stanley Cup winner (north or south of the boarder) whose roster was not made up by a majority of CANADIAN players.

Get it, 100%. Does it resonate? Again you are welcome, now enjoy their Canadian labour.

OP- the only example I took the time to research refutes your argument. 20 of the Stanley Cup-winning Wings hailed from the US or Europe; only 12 from Canada.
                        Majority = larger number
                        20 > 12
USA (and Europe)!! USA (and Europe)!!

                            • No question there......

Canada still produces most of the players in the NHL. I just don't buy into the argument that the best players in the world are mostly Canadian.

                              • Canadians just get pissy because they don't own their own game anymore. It would be like all the good NFL teams being from Canada or Mexico or something like that.

The way the NFL treated Canadian cities was disgraceful. That being said, the Don Cherry-like xenophobia exhibited by lots of Canadian fans is just as disgraceful.
