  • Thought if Tampa was going to re-sign him , it would of happened earlier, don't blame Stamkos for exploring the market.

    Tax Implications were everything.

The Maple Leafs would have had to pay Stamkos $12.37M AAV over 7-yrs to NET same(after taxes)as TB $8.5M over 8- yrs,

      • Holland just signed Frans Nielsen to a six year contract. He is currently 32.

So much for building for the future.

Look out 8th seed, the Red Wings are coming!

        • And Helm for 5 years/$20M. He'll be 30 when the season starts. Holland's needs to go, man.

          • Yup. It's starting to get comical at this point. I guess that it will take a missed playoff year or two to bring the change though.

            • Unless Holland has something late coming, the stupidity is stunning.

In Other News.....Pens offer Cup winner, Jimmy Rutherford a 3-year extension as GM.

World Cup this fall, rumor although Steven Stamkos and John Tavares are natural centers in the NHL, they may flank Sidney Crosby at center. Oh yeah, Johnathan Toews' line would be up next. LOL

If they jell, may be the greatest line ever assembled.

If Crosby can win the Conn Smythe playing with dead weight, linemates , 24-year old rookie, 5 ft. 8 in. , 7-goal sniper in the regular season, Connor Sheary...&...22-goal scorer, 7th rounder, 230th player, last player selected in 2005 Draft, Patrick Hornqvist, imagine what he will do playing with world-class goal scorers!

              Crazy.

However, instead, insert Brand Marchand's power forward/world-class speed game would do most of the heavy lifting on that line....permutations are mind-blowing.

              • Meh... Typical Holland so far, let's hope he can trade for a defenseman.

Frans is a pretty solid two way player. Not an elite talent (which the Wings need). 6 years well a bit long but that is the market these days.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

                    • Getting young defenseman Alexey Marchenko back on a two-year deal was smart, but the rest of Holland's moves left something to be desired.

I guess Holland freed up 19M in CAP space to sign 33-year old Steve Ott to a one-year deal for 800K?

Played 21 games last year, no goals, 2 assists. .

                      • P.K. Subban trade may be the worst in Canadiens history

                        Comment

                        • LOI, I will take the bait Packy....IMO Pat Roy was the worst trade in Habs history.

Shea Weber is a Top-four, best defensemen in the World, full stop.

Anchored gold medals in 2010, 2014, was one of 4 automatically named to Team Canada, World Cup 2016, along with Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty and Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

These core 4 likely represent the best defensemen in the world.

Weber at 30-years old has plenty of hockey left him, no D-man has scored more goals in the last 10 years ( 168 ) than Weber, his shot is the most feared in the entire League from the point. 6-4", 240 lbs, a beast, just ask your boy Zetterberg.

It is no accident that hockey fans in Montreal and in Canada are upset about the trade that sent Subban to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber, barely for a second considering that some of hockey’s wisest men — Mike Babcock, Joel Quenneville, Steve Yzerman, Doug Armstrong, Ken Hitchcock — would probably make the same deal for Weber in a heartbeat.

Weber played top-four minutes for Team Canada in Vancouver & Sochi against the best in the world while Subban barely dressed. (Played 6 minutes against mighty Austria during the entire Tournament 2014). He was named early to Team Canada for this September’s World Cup team and Subban was left off the roster, 2016. The fancy numbers favour Subban: The veteran eyeballs with championship pedigree prefer Weber.

Suban is a turnover machine, he has some flashy metrics but doesn't pass the eyeball test. Montreal coaches and Management grew tired of his assclownery and gave him the boot before his no-trade clause kicked in.

IMO opinion if you want to be entertained pick Suban, if you want to win the Cup take Weber.

Jonathan Toews said it best via Twitter, he wished Weber good luck in Montreal and thanks for leaving the Blackhawks Central Divison. Means a ton coming from the 2nd best player in the world.

                          Jonathan Toews ✔ @JonathanToews
Hey Webs good luck in Montreal thanks for leaving our division!
