  • Be that as it may......(You being pissed).......it's a clean hit. His feet leave the ice upon impact. As to stupid penalties....Do you not remember Gerard Gallant? The dumbest hockey player of all time. If Detroit had a PP....he would go head-hunting.

    • Let me make this (perfectly) clear in 'today's' NHL I would be pissed if Hank or Dat's or any other Wing took that hit. I don't like it, but thats the way Bettmans NHL is now.

I posted to OP (about Cindy) that 25 years ago this crap didn't happen b/c 'old time hockey' you would have to answer that with your gloves off. The first thing the officials did tonight was skate over and protect Abdelkader from any Duck.

And yea, I forgot about Gerard Gallant, damn he was dumb, he used to jump in to a fight while a Red Wing was winning it. I have him on DVD of the Bruise Brothers.

Note: I have is footage of Gallant in a fight - blatantly pulling the other guys hair.

      • I look at the way I look at the Ottawa/Montreal hit the other night. "Keep your fucking head up",....and, moreover, it wasn't an intent to injure. Move on. Instead, we'll have a couple of days of Hand-Wringing, and assholes talking about a "dirty" hit, as if it was the worst thing to ever happen. Abdelkader will be suspended, and the Wings will lose this series. And a bunch of guys (Like me) who miss Old-Time hockey will be ignored. *Shrug*

But, yeah......Gallant. A class all by himself in stupidity.

        • BTW.....heard a guy on NBC Sports call Ryan "I am not Freddie Mercury" Getzlaf, "The next, best thing to Gordie Howe". Quite possibly the stupidest thing I've heard on TV in 20+ years. My jaw literally dropped.

          • Nobody misses Old-Time hockey more than me. I may have been young, but I grew up watching Bob Probert (Joey Kocur) and NOBODY messed with Stevie Y while Probie was around.

That said, I can't be like Don Cherry living in the past.

The game has changed (for the worse), but he did point out one night how the padding is now like getting hit with a hammer. He had shoulder pads out showing they are as hard as a rock, that's why getting hit in the head with them is doing so much damage.

            • Here it is in slow mo (I posted it up there ^) Abdelkader is clearly leaving his feet while delivering the blow. Just Stupid!!

              Comment

              • He leaves his feet as contact is made....almost simultaneously, and it's shoulder-to-shoulder. That's a clean hit.

                • I think charging is 3 strides (?) Abdelkader was lining him up longer than that. There are other angles showing where Abdelkader shoulder runs up to the head. Abdelkader is still an idiot who for some reason is Babcock's favorite. ESPN's Barry Melrose said every one of Scott Stevens crushing checks is a penalty theses days.

                  • What Abdelkader did was certainly a charge, it was a running start from the blue line and I'm not surprised that he got tossed.

There was contact to the head, whether it was intentional or not is irrelevant. He will probably get 2 games.

                    • In today's NHL, no doubt that's charging. In the old days, it even might have been.

Whether he actually was airborn or not at the point of the contact, he was clearly springing upwards---just watch his knees in that replay, both at real-time speed and especially in slo-mo. Going airborn absolutely was not just an incidental thing that results from the contact in this case.

The real issue now is not whether, but for how long, is the suspension? The Wings could play thru a 1- or 2-gamer, ....er, never mind---our goaltending sucks anyways!

                      • Bottom line, the hit is going to lead to the elimination of the Red Wings from the playoffs. I don't think they can recover from this loss. The guys who used to be able to lead them out of spots like this are all gone. The NHL has done to the Red Wings what the NBA and Rod Thorne did to the Detroit Pistons.

                            • Cheer up Liney, here's the real crime:

Comcast SportsNet Chicago announced Thursday they were parting ways with reporter Susannah Collins two days after an on-air gaffe of hers. Chicago Blackhawks, are you nuts, tell Comcast to get bent?

If she can make coffee, I'd hire her in a heartbeat with a raise. Attractive women, talking naughty in the workplace, really?

                              • The gaffe

Yet another division championship for the Red Wings. Playoffs start April 13th. Potential opponents include Chicago, LA, Nashville, and Anaheim. LA would probably be the easiest. After that, I'm not so sure. All of them have been playing much better than the Red Wings lately. I'm not too optimistic about this year's playoff
