  • Viewership has increased by double-digits for coverage of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs on NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus).

Game 1 of the Sharks/Blues Stanley Cup playoff quarterfinal drew a 9.7 rating on Fox Sports Midwest in the St. Louis market, the highest for a Blues telecast on any network since Red Wings/Blues Game 3 in 2002

    • If they are lucky, Flyers scored the most regular season goals and are making the Pens pay bigtime! It was going 6-7 games anyway and it series should actually be a split but oh well, time to put up or shut up for Pittsburgh. As I predicted a month ago, I wouldn't want to open the playoffs against Philly!

Although the best team since Jan 1st, The Penguins haven't been a responsible defensive team for much of the year and it is showing in the post-season and those outrageous Fleury rebounds reek of goaltender fatigue.

"It's execution, realizing what we're doing wrong," defenseman Brooks Orpik said. "We have to execute better. They're taking advantage of every mistake we're making. We're hanging our goalie out to dry, that's for sure."

        • This Boston/Washington series is worse than a pre-lockout neutral zone trap fest. Two games, two goals total scored in regulation.

Eight minutes into overtime: 2 total shots on goal.

          • Ovie, balloned up to 250 lbs, cut his goal production into less than 1/2, more interested in making "Russian Rap Videos" while his team barely made the last playoff spot in the East, cost Washington 10M, while he and his team got his coach fired.

To think, there were countless assclowns less than 18 months ago suggesting he was on par if not better than SC. A couple of years as the most dynamic goal-scorer in the league followed by zip.

The World Jr. Tournament (2005 & 06) and 2010 Olympics exposed this lazy fuck, badly.

                • THN's Top 50 NHLers as voted by the players: No. 1

                  2012-03-15 10:00:00

For our March 19 issue of The Hockey News, we polled five players from each NHL team for who they thought were the top five players in the league today. Players couldn't vote for teammates. After tabulating the votes, we ended up with a ranking of the top 50 players in the NHL.
After releasing our list day-by-day, we are left with one last spot, the best NHLer as voted by the players, Sidney Crosby.
It just so happens No. 87 is returning from a concussion the same day we release this result online - we didn't plan it this way. But it's clear that, despite the time he's missed this season, his peers in the NHL recognize his supreme talents and accomplishments.

Congratulations to Crosby, still selected by his peers after 15 months on IR nursing a concussion.

                  #1 Sidney Crosby
                  #2 Pavel Datsyuk
                  #3 Cladue Giroux
                  #4 Steven Stamkos
                  #5 Jonathan Toews
                  #6 Evgeni Malkin
                  #7 Nick Lidstrom
                  #8 Alex Ovechkin

                  • AND, AS USUAL, You fail to miss the salient fact that I have been saying since we started this stupid argument. NON-CANADIENS can be in the discussion of who are the best players in the NHL. It's almost surrealistic how you fail to grasp a point that my beagle would have no difficulty getting.

Hanni I agree, Ovechkin had the BEST goal highlights without a doubt, merely most for show, however he did hold tremendous promise, perhaps a late bloomer? You know where I stand on AO when I called him on his "BS" years ago.

BTW Packy your boy, Shea Weber ranked #12 on the most current list.
