29 of Detroit's 41 road games are currently in different time zones than Detroit. The playoffs have been even worse.

Under the new system, every team in the NHL will play in every building at least once a year. Fantastic.

The only thing I liked about the old system is that I was living in So Cal for a while so I could go see Red Wings playoff games cheap! The Ducks never sell out playoff games and you can easily buy tickets at face. Plus, at least 25% of the crowd at the games are Red Wings fans!

The 'new' alignment is better (for the Wings) than the old. 'Course, I'd prefer a conference that contained all the Original 6 and let the rest of the teams sort it out. I'd also strengthen the value of the regular season by allowing only the top 3 (as opposed to the top 4) from each conference into the playoffs.

The scary part is Bettman approves of this re-alignment. So do most of the fans. Which means that most fans find themselves agreeing with Bettman...ugh!
