  • The Blue Jackets intend to name Mike Babcock as their new head coach once his contract with the Maple Leafs expires at the end of this month.

Looks like Edmonton (and Froot Loops) have found what we all knew already about Ken Holland and will not renew his contract. His final summer in the position under his current contract. There has been zero discussion about an extension.

Holland - “I plan to honor my contract.

“Beyond that, at this stage of my life, I don’t invest in green bananas. I’m not sure if I’m going to be around long enough to see them ripen to be yellow.”

    • I'll bet 100% of every NHL player has some stage of CTE

Before my time.... he played almost all games in the 50s and 60s and I never heard of him being a physical player. Definitely not a fighter

      • The no helmet era. I’m surprised those guys live as long as they do.

        • Tonight's the big night! The NHL draft, this is getting almost as embarrassing as the Lions. Oh well, I'm very interested to see what Stevie has up his sleeve tonight.

          • Wings coming up, I want nothing more than Yzerman to walk up there and not give any bullshit thank you’s or congratulations. Announce the pick and walk away, F'K Bettman.

            • Freep;

Red Wings pick Nate Danielson at No. 9 in Wednesday's opening round of the 2023 NHL draft.

Danielson is 6-2, 186 pounds and shoots right. He's a highly skilled center with outstanding vision and the patience to wait until it's the right moment to make the play. He led the Brandon Wheat Kings (Western Hockey League) with 78 points (33 goals, 45 assists) in 68 games. He's versatile to the point he can play power play, penalty kill and be used in the last minute of tight games.

                • Axel Sandin Pellikka was taken at No. 17 overall on Wednesday, the first night of the NHL draft. He is an offensive defenseman with the skill set to run a power play. His playmaking, vision, shot and mobility make him an attractive package. Haven't seen anyone but like this pick...Another swede D

                  • Yzerman has been very active singing FA, but it's a very weak year for them. Hope I'm wrong, don't see much of any needle-moving here.

                    • Would like to see a trade, but I think Yzerman is trying to put the best team together while giving the kids another year to gain experience.

                      • Yeah, let’s not rush the 8 year rebuild.

                        • I figured 5 years we would be contending, then getting F'D over in the draft (every year), yea realistically is around 8 years I would say.

                          • Compher is a playoff team forward. He's built for it. Not sure he moves the needle enough though.

                            • James Reimer talked today about how excited he is to come to the Red Wings.

And I forgot he was one of the players who refused to wear (or even warm up with) the "Pride" jersey nights. Now some Twitter people (not sure if they are even hockey fans (?), are having a 'hissy fit' telling him he's not wanted here and he's a homophobe, racist loser etc... ect.. lol

                              • Maple Leafs have signed Burt to a one-year, $5.5M contract, betting on himself.
