  • Is there any team out there that could take the Dats contract in order to meet the salary cap floor?

    • Yes. But the question is -- what would we have to give them to do that? Maybe it's time to just bite the bullet.

Arizona was rumored as well as a few others. Holland has publicly admitted that the asking price is too steep. Wings don't want to part with a few top prospects to sweeten the deal for CAP relief over only 1 year.

The good news is Detroit doesn't actually pay his salary but it counts against the CAP. This may strap Detroit in the Stamkos Sweepstakes, Toronto has the cash and the space.

If the only 60 goal scorer in the League at 26-years old ends up playing for Babcock in TO, Detroit fans will be furious.

          • Captain Zetterberg scored 13 goals and Datsyuk only 16 last season and played most of the minutes.

That's 6.1M + 7.5M = 13.6M in combined salary for one player on a serious decline and the other bolting for Russia while sticking the Wings with the tab.

I strongly suspect Holland not only wants but is desperately needing 60-goal scorer Stamkos, especially with a new building on the near horizon.

            • No point in pursuing Stamkos. There will be others in the future and they might as well get a legit lottery pick this year.

              • If there is a team with cap space who wants a deal, then Howard, Franzen, and/or Zetterberg are the guys to move to see if you can get some draft picks out of it.

                • 60-goal scorer Stamkos no longer exists. He's been replaced with oft-injured 28 goal scorer Stamkos.

                  • Stamkos is the biggest star to hit UFA in years.

23, 51, 45, 60, 29, 25, 43, 36 = 312 goals , just turned 26-years old. Lost almost an entire year with a badly broken leg while back checking in support of his goalie, damn hero.

Bad luck struck again, missed 19 playoff games with a freak blood clott, doctors removed a rib that caused the odd occurance, back to 100%.

In his Young career, he's averaged 39 goals a season and he's about to hit his prime.

He will command 10M a season over 8 years , maximum new NHL contract.

Although a centerman, look for him on Captain Crosby's wing in the World Cup this fall.

Team Canada's Premiere, firstline, beyond lethal.

                      • Detroit can't afford him thanks to genius Holland paying 7.5M in CAP space while Datsyuk plays in Russia.

If Tampa had him, we would of heard something, Yzerman offered 8.5M a season.

29 teams will ask, hope he ends up in Toronto, local Newmarket, Ontario kid anyway.

Why would he want to go (besides $$$$) to that CF of a franchise.

                            • Wings manage to trade Datsyuk's 7.5M CAP hit to Arizona along with the #16 pick?

Strange, must be taking a serious run at Stamkos, his stock rumor has risen to 12M a season according to a few NHL Clubs. Detroit has 19M in CAP space.

12M a season over 7 years. Ton of cash one player.

                              • I'd pay him 10 per but 12 is seriously pushing it. That's a lot of coin.
