  • I question M's lead for McDowell. I think fandom plays much less a role for some of these guys than we think.

    • We'll have to fight for him, no doubt. The in-state stars who like Michigan are the guys that you can't whiff on (especially if he goes to another Midwest school).

      • I agree that he is a bellwether.

        • I think he's entirely a Billy Price Redux. He'll probably wear M colors.

The only school I could see challenging M is MSU.

          • Billy Price?

Does that mean that he's going to stay on the Michigan sidelines ala Maurice Clarrett on the OSU sidelines for his official?

            Comment

            • Something like that. I don't think he has ANY interest in OSU. Unless Hoke pulls his offer or something. Heh.

              • What's the Billy Price story? That coulda been during my dark years.

                • Last season he visited M for The Game and openly rooted for OSU and then committed to OSU in March or something.

                  • So, this is from an OSU insider -- conservative one -- so there's not a great deal of new information there, but it's a nice summary of Dawson's recruitment. I really don't understand why M wouldn't take Dawson back, but whatever. If he doesn't commit to Florida soon, it's going to be a UFM vs. Dantonio battle. Heh.

1- Dawson was committed to Michigan for a long time, but the rumblings he would not be going there were out there early last summer.

2- He silently committed to Florida last summer.

3- When Michigan pressed him for an IN or OUT answer a few weeks ago, and he couldn't say IN 100%, they dropped him.

4- That was no problem to Dawson because he had Florida as his school all along. He reaffirmed to Florida last week and visited last weekend. Sunday night his commitment to Florida was supposed to be made public. BUT it never happened.

5- Word is now that mom is having second thoughts about him going far from home. David's father is deceased. Can he just go back to Michigan? Absolutely not. Can he still commit to Florida? Yes, but they're now ticked at him and are looking for another guard. He better go soon if he wants Florida.

6- If mom wins out and he doesn't go to Florida, this opens it up for Ohio State and Michigan State. Would Ohio State take him? YES, without question.

7- He is supposed to visit for the Michigan game, but if his team gets back to the championship game it will be that weekend, so that might not work.

                    8- STAY TUNED............................................. ..

                    • I don't remember Billy Price being a realistic target on the radar.

                      • No, he wasn't. Once UFM was hired, his recruitment ended.

In the same way, I don't view McDowell as a realistic target for OSU. At all.

                        • I agree with Hack. Conley was up front, and that is a different matter. And if he wants to play receiver, for gosh sakes let him. The game reports about him at WR this season have been spectacular. ALSO, we could move our back-up QB to his natural position.

I continue to think that the Hokason policy is a net negative, particularly since they seem to center their recruiting in the Midwest. If I were a high school kid, I'd want to take a trip to the warm states if I had a chance to. Now, Dawson, one of the best recruiters FOR Michigan, has negative feelings that are bound to show at Cass Tech. This policy gives UM the privelege of being ranked # 1 in recruiting for months on end while ND and Ohio slowly build their classes. We turn away Ethan Pocic, and maybe others. These are 17-18 year old kids for crying out loud.

If everything in your timeline is correct, I have no problem with turning away Dawson. Being a silent commit to another school while committed to Mich? That's some BS.

Regarding not being 100%, Hoke needs to be the adult, tell him to sow his oats, and if there is a spot take him back. But Mich should consider him uncommitted and try to fill his spot in the meantime.

But that's me. Hoke has done pretty well thus far.

                                Yes, that makes perfect sense.
