  • I was looking at his height and lack of football experience, but it seems he was being recruited by the "flagship" program of the BIG so he must be a great prospect.

    • Talked with a recruiting insider 2-3 days ago, told me M doesn't recruit kids from the south that have 'handlers'. They'll only recruit the kid himself not through a handler, parent or family friend. He also brought up that lots of these elite recruits have their entire recruitment handled by a 'family friend' (agent type or connected to an agent) who showed up when they looked like an NFL prospect. These 'family friends' sometimes have more than one family to look after.

I brought up Cam Newton and he said that is more rare that a kid who is getting taking cared of by a 'handler', a third party loosely associated with the university. He mentioned the typical programs expected of this and a couple surprises: Auburn, Alabama, LSU, USC, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson and Texas. Not really any 'news' from this but confirmed what I've heard and he said college basketball is easily ten times as competitive.

      • I know Green and Treadwell aren't deciding for a while, but was there any reaction from them about the Sparty game ... I believe both were in attendance.

        • Treadwell ended up not making it.
Green ended up staying until tomorrow morning and told Mike Farrell the visit was going great.

          • No idea on Treadwell not making it, I thought it was an official so it's a surprise. I'll see if the rivals guys have anything on this.

            • OlieO is trying to steal Gareon Conley?

              • He's been flirting with visiting elsewhere (Oregon) awhile. Probably recruit most likely to decommit.

                • From what I could gather on Rivals, Treadwell couldn't make it and had a good reason for doing so, although that reason was not disclosed.

Conley is indeed the next likely candidate to de-commit.

I expect a couple more before national signing day.

                  • One more is about all I expect and hope it's not Conley as he's awfully underrated imo.

                    • Any info on how hard they are working to keep him?

Is there a general approach to that? I mean, once the Dawsons and Conleys and others start to get the wandering eye, do they step up communications as a rule? On a case-by-case basis?

                      • All committed players are contacted weekly (or close to it) by what coach is recruiting them as allowed by the rules and the recruits are free the coaches anytime.

                        • Conley will either visit somewhere, or he won't. Per Hoke's rule, it's that simple.

ESPN and at least one OSU Scout guy love him. As does WM. I'm not quite as high on him, but he is still good.

                          • I see him as a top 150-200 type, far from a cant miss. Like him more than Jourdan Lewis from what I've seen.

Certainly it's a little more complex than that? There's those mailings, and in general a sense of priorities. Hoke can make the call instead of the position coach, for example, to up the ante? I'd be interested in knowing more about how this works with these kids.

Ah. Then we see him roughly the same.
