That reminds me of the commercial where one guy says he's 99.9999 percent sure, and another guy says, "So, you're not sure."

Depends ....... and I've wondered about this myself. The proliferation of these "camps" has been mindboggling. They are everywhere and sponsored by everybody. The rules are (as one would expect from the knuckleheaded NCAA), complex.

I found this link that summarizes (ha, ha, that is funny) the NCAA rules on this. From browsing it you get an idea of how many and how varied football camps can be:

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • "Provision of Travel Expenses for All Employees (13.12.2.1.2) A student-athlete may receive actual travel expenses (including lodging and meals in transit and prepaid plane tickets or cash advances) only if such travel expenses are paid and procedures for reimbursement of expenses are used for all employees of the camp/clinic. Credit cards may not be provided to a student-athlete to pay such expenses. (Adopted: 1/10/92)"

Can't say that I read the whole thing in detail, but it does sound like these camps can pretty much be an all expenses paid type of deal. I know there are other sections dealing with awards etc. but state the student-athlete can receive awards if the awards are covered in the camp admission fee. Don't know what those admission fees are but suspect they vary from camp to camp.

All in all, as many of these student-athletes can't afford a sandwich once they get on campus, the camps seem to be a pretty nice perk if you're lucky enough to get invited or can afford the admission fee.

        • I think most of the camps are bankrolled by shoe and athletic apparel companies. The various schools don't put up any money. They just provide facilities.

          • Any more information on Treadwell? Does anyone else get the feeling he's not being completely honest?

            • I think he is being honest.

Let's face it, Hoke has a pretty tough rule when it comes to using the word "commit". I'm not so sure that I wouldn't want to take some free trips to interesting destinations. But with the way these classes are filling up now, there is not as much chance to "shop around". The uncertainty we feel is because we have been spoiled by all the early commits. That weekend we got 32 stars with 8 players assured us of this periood of hand wringing.

              • I think it's what you said above; he knows where he wants to go but isn't 100% 'sure.' Remember Laquon had a visit to Oklahoma/Oklahoma State visit setup (he has family near there) but was canceled due to weather in April'ish. IMO he wants to take that visit to compare it to Ann Arbor.

                • Fantastic class, but man that would sting if we don't land him.

                  • He's replaceable, that is if M can land someone close to his caliber in talent... I'm confident he's a Wolverine.

                    • He's like the kid who is pretty sure he's going to ask a certain girl to the prom, but he wants to see if he can find someone more attractive before he asks her. In this case the girls of Oklahoma will be very alluring. That's why you can't put a percentage on the likelihood of his being a Wolverine. He could be "99%" sure today, but his head could be turned tomorrow by a more attractive suitor.

                        • Not as if he's one of those favorite-of-the-week types. Seems consistent.

Isn't that the metaphor as a whole for recruiting, not just Treadwell? We're 7 months from signing day. Not like he's holding anyone hostage or abusing the system.

                            • with the 2013 class winding down (at least in terms of verbals --- let's hope no turncoats), what's the latest on 2014?

With the trend that Hoke has set, it "feels" like we are behind not having any '14's committed yet. Where do McDowell and Webb stand?

                              • The M fan base is incredibly spoiled by Hoke's first two seasons of recruiting .......

..... not to mention, no one should be hanging on the words of 18 year old HS recruits. Just insane.

I do like reading the camp reports. I never was much interested and they didn't seem to be getting the press they are getting now. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. Kids are pretty vulnerable at this stage. They are getting the hype of pro-athletes and I don't think that is real healthy. I guess it is what it is.

Did I mention I hate July.
