  • I think that it's worth it if the guy is also an exceptional athlete who can get down the field on punts or even provide some depth as a third string LB. Other than that -- eh -- not so sure. With that said, there are a lot worse ways to spend a scholarship.

        • Fantastic segment this morning on wtka with Marcus Ray to talk about recruiting. Marcus Ray has absolutely no reservations about saying what is on his mind and he talked about David Boston's recruiting visit in the '90s. According to Marcus, a personal feud started on that visit when Boston openly declared that he was going to OSU and he just was visiting Michigan to take a shit on the place. They apparently almost came to blows and that carried over onto the field later. He also mentioned Shawn Alexander and to make a long story short, the players were complete dicks to him and he had a horrible visit.

          • How did this feel, you bitch?

            • Why did the players make sure that Shawn Alexander had a terrible visit? Did he do something wrong?

              • According to Ray, some guys didn't want Alexander because they didn't want him to step in in front of Biakabutuka. Ray also mentions "he was from Kentucky and he talked different".

                • Well that sucks. They wouldn't have even played together.

                  • Yup, and then Alexander went on to tear us a new one in two bowl games (fortunately, we had a future first ballot NFL Hall of Famer playing QB in one of them).

                    • Interesting. I didn't even know Alexander considered Michigan at one point.

                      • Would a loss by M to Alabama next year, or vice-versa, have a major impact on recruiting? I'm thinking a loss wouldn't hurt us as much as a win would help us.

                        • I'm thinking that a win helps us hugely, and with a loss we kind of just shrug our shoulders and say that's kinda what we expected anyways.

                          • Hearing M is now declining to take Dukes. No issues, just don't want him. Confirm/deny?

                            • Looking around the conference, it looks very winnable. M isn't really much better or worse off than anyone else. East is wide open with OSU already out of it, I could see anyone but Indiana winning that division....

West looks a bit tougher, Nebraska should be one of the leagues top 3-4 teams, along with M. MSU will be in that discussion too, they lost their star QB and top receivers. How well they are able to replace their QB/receivers will determine how well they do in '12; regardless they have a defense that maybe the #1/#2 in the league as they return nearly everybody but Worthy from a really good defense...

re: how it affects recruiting - Success on the field leads to success in recruiting and vice versa. M beating a #1/#2 team sure would help M with those blue chip national recruits they are always in on, but never get. But they'd need more than just a win vs Bama to get M back in the national picture, they need to win BT titles, play in BCS bowls and win big OOC games vs Bama/ND; or at least 3 out of those 4.

                              • Haven't read up on recruiting yet this morning, talent. I doubt it would be a 'talent' issue with him if they declined him...

They have the scholarships to take 3 or even 4 receivers and the 'need' for them too after signing 0 in '11.
