    • Ondre Pipkins makes a huge jump to #14 overall and 5 star status on Rivals.

      • I don't know how reliable 247 Sports is, but here's their rankings of M players in the top 247:

        Pipkins 51
        Bolden 59
        Kaylis 62
        Magnuson 72
        Wormley 73
        Ross 116
        Richardson 142
        Strobel 198
        Darboh 199
        Jenkins-Stone 209

        • Will that boost give Michigan two 5-star recruits for the class?

          • According to Rivals, yes.

            Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

            • Would Rivals be the "Book of Hoyle" as it relates to Poker?

What, there is Rivals, ESPN, Scout & 24/7 that assess recruitment class rankings? Which agency is considered the definitive expert?

The way the Prime sees it......frankly an arbitrary number assigned to kids still in high school, right.

              • There is no "book of Hoyle" recruiting service. Rivals probably does better with SE recruits, but tends to overvaule them relative to the rest of the country. Scout is better in the midwest. 247 is run by the guys show originally started Rivals then sold it to Yahoo. EspnU, IMO, is the worst.

Your best bet is to look at the composite of the 4 services.

Also, Rivals generally has somewhere in the mid-20s 5* players while Scout has 50. Ohio State, e.g., has two Rivals 5* players and four scout 5*.

                • Based on what I've read on MGoBlog, they tend to feel ESPN is the most "out of the loop" for sure.

                  • Even billion dollar NFL owners get it wrong with all the resources to get it right.

An Alex Smith first overall as opposed to a Tom Brady , drafted 199? It's no science that is for sure.

I think they're the ones that totally shit on Kalis (like #130 or something). They are usually so far off on Ohio that I assume they're equally off-base on other states. Lugenbill also, famously for OSU fans, predicted that Pryor would choose Oregon -- when he'd never even visited and everyone and their brother knew it was OSU, M or PSU.

Anyway, I usually look at the other 3. I like Scout best because they tend to rate non-southerners higher than Rivals -- and I like that they give 50 players 5*.

                      • ESPN's recruiting coverage is a reflection the rest of their CFB coverage...a giant SEC commercial. At the UA game, they promoted D. Neal as a Florida or Arkansas lean. No mention of ND despite the fact that ND was the only visit the kid had made to that point.

                        • That's the other thing I hate about that service.

                          • Rivals is now reporting that Jordan Payton is having second thoughts about his Cal commitment. Seems the recruiting coordinator has left, and that was someone he liked a lot.

Payton says he's "committed to Cal but still looking". Translation, "I still want the attention of being recruited".

Michigan's coaches are supposed to do an in-home visit with him this week.

If he were to somehow flip to Michigan, I wouldn't believe that he's really coming, even if he signed his LOI. I'd believe it only when I see him wearing a Michigan uniform.

In hindsight, wishful thinking (that Pryor had instead chosen Oregon) for ohio fans and the vest, all of whom rue the day TP held that self-serving press conference, several days after all less-selfish recruits had signed their "dotted lines"...

I like your "translation", Liney---I was watching that all-star game a weekend ago during which Payton verballed, and for some reason remember thinking at the time that he seemed to love attention a little more than most. My concern with him, should he decommit from Cal to come to U of M, is that he might be the type to transfer out should he not quickly crack the 2-deep.
