  • Sure he didn't. He was such an honorable saint and all.

    • Tressel didn't have to negatively recruit. It's pretty easy to recruit with guys like Aaron Kniffin, Eddie DeGeronimo, and Dennis Talbott around.

      • Too funny.

Incidentally, this the RichROD stuff I referred to:

I'm sure you guys know better, though.

        Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

        • So you value the opinion and judgement of somebody who thought Tony Gibson was a great assistant coach?

          • It's neither his opinion nor judgment. It's his personal experience, specifically with recruiting.

Now, if you're saying M hired a liar, so be it. I happen to find credible his factual statements concerning his own experience.

            • It can't be his personal experience. He is not present for any OSU recruiting activities. Presumably, he doesn't have access to the e-mails between Ted Sarniak and Jim Tressel that OSU is desprately trying to keep secret for some reason. Therefore, it is his judgement and his knowledge (or lack thereof) of Tressel's history at Youngstown State and OSU. We have a pretty good idea now about how good his judgement is.

              • What's Sarniak have to do with negative recruiting?

Eh, what can I say. RichGOD say Ohio State never negatively recruited against M to his knowledge. I don't know what else to say.

                • Never forget about how Urban handled Darryl Stonum's recruitment:

The University of Florida stayed on the four star pass-catcher well all the way through. Things crescendoed recently after a conversation with Urban Meyer. According to Stonum, Meyer had a compelling reason why he should become a Gator.

"He told me that he talked to Coach Carr and Coach Soup and that they told him that I would be a much better fit in the Florida offense than I would be in the one at Michigan," Stonum recalled.

"I thought, wow, my coaches are selling me out? I confronted them about it. I asked Coach Carr and Coach Soup about it, and they said they never talked to that guy and that there was no way they ever said anything like that and that they think I should be a Wolverine. I believed them. Right then, I knew just how Florida rolled."

What a perfect fit for Ohio.

                  • Rich Rod can be such a dumbass. No, players selling items for money doesn't give a team a competitive advantage, but knowingly allowing those violators to continue playing certainly does.

                    • I don't remember people complaining that Tressel was a negative recruiter. Just that he was a cheater. I do recall RichRod saying that Tressel was a good guy because he didn't negatively recruit though. Thank God that idiot is gone.

                      • The specualtion, as I recall, was that Sparty or Iowa was the negative recruiters.

                        • And almost certainly Oregon too.

                          • Bah. I don't care. Negative recruiting is fine with me as long as it's honest (although often it isn't). I'd be pissed if our coaches didn't do any of it.

                            • And there was little need to negatively recruit against RichRod. He didn't recruit Ohio well and his record spoke for itself.

                              • Yeah if you were recruiting a defensive player, all you had to do was put in a tape of one of RichRod's games and leave the room for a few minutes. When you came back, the guy you were recruiting would have his letter of intent already signed.
