  • Nah. We had Marshall Applewhite and an abortion clinic bomber, though. So we got that going for us.

      • Michigan's 2024 recruiting class is now ranked at 15th in the nation. Tied with Stanford for the most commits.

How far will they drop? There's still nearly 5 months left before the first signing period. 20th or lower?

From the article: Michigan is tied with Stanford for the most commits in the nation, but the average ranking of its verbal pledges now ranks outside the top 15.

If they want a NC or a B1G Championship, and a win over OSU, they better do it this year, because in 2024 and beyond, that door slams shut for a long time.

        • That’s not ranked 15th. Recruiting rankings combine total commits and avg ranking (more or less). They’ll finish around 8-12.

          • Or, outside the top 15, as the article says.

            • Liney, your recruiting class ranking only concerns your top 20-22 rated recruits. When M accepts a commitment from a 2-star it has zero effect on their recruiting ranking unless they could've given that scholarship to a higher-rated recruit who would've accepted their offer.

M's class at 8-12 is still very strong. I've more faith in M's coaching staff to identify, develop, and coach up his collection of 4-stars than most any coaching staff on M's schedule. That wasn't the case till John Harbaugh started helping Jim fill out his coaching staff regularly. M can also add to their class if needed via the transfer portal.

This ...... and I like the suggestion that John Harbaugh has been assisting Jim in filling out his coaching roster. I won't quibble with the notion of the importance of 5* impact players - the ones who actually pan out - on any team advancing through the season and accessing the CFP. But Liney has, in part, taken a supportable position, that coaching and player development matters. How much it matters when you get to conference championships and CFPs is debatable with a nod to the number of impact players with game changing skills making a difference in how far you can advance
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                • Michigan’s class is perfectly reasonable to put them at the talent needed for the playoff. I think around #10 when all is said and done.

                  • Those 5 stars are valuable and make a coach's job really easy. They become nearly required when you play a team like Georgia or Bama who have those caliber players at every position group but those two programs aren't on M's schedule.

                    • Clemson won it all with a #9. It can be done.

                      • The key to winning a natty is having an elite QB (on a team with top 10 roster talent). Clemson won a couple because they had Watson and Barbie. Swap them out with Cade McNamara and… not so much.

                        • Mike,

I think there is some truth to that, but the check to it is a world class defense and an excellent run game.

Saban has won 6 national championships at Alabama. Three of those championships were QB’ed by NFL starter types (Mac Jones, Tua/Jalen Hurts) while the other half (AJ McCarron, Greg McElroy, and Jake Coker), not so much.

That may be true, but they were no Craig Krenzel

I agree. This is kind of what I've been trying to say all along regarding recruiting services.
