He was posting in here about M having an elite class or something like that. Back in March. I told him they wouldn’t be top 5 and he said he didn’t care because he knew elite when he saw it.

Some of his posts are memorialized in quotes, but he basically deleted almost everything.

                  • Probably better that he left. Michigan will not have an elite class in '24. By time the amazingly accurate recruiting services get finished evaluating and re-evaluating everyone, Michigan will be fortunate to be in the top 15. Harbaugh is horrible at recruiting elite talent. Ask anyone.

For me, I just hope he keeps the score within 3 touchdowns on Thanksgiving Saturday. "Third Base" is out for revenge, and he will not be denied.

He was a real piece of work. Even better than posters who routinely point out how silly recruiting is on a recruiting thread. I mean, there's just no way to have have any idea if any of these kids are any good.

                      • Brett Gallimore was a 4* 'can't miss" OL from Missouri, recruited by Lloyd Carr along about 2003, or so. Big, tough, a real stud of a lineman.

Came to Michigan, worked out early with the team in the summer. When fall practice began in August of that year, Gallimore worked out with the team for two weeks. He then walked into Lloyd Carr's office, and told Carr that he no longer wanted to play football. His complaint was that he did not want to play college football. Not that he was being mistreated or unfairly. He just didn't want to play football anymore. He quit the team. IIRC, Carr honored his scholarship, but Gallimore left the team, left the school, and never played football again.

Can't miss. Rated 4* by the recruiting services.

So yeah, I put a lot of stock into what these people are saying.

                        • For those, like me, that are really interested in recruiting and, for some crazy reason, seem to think higher rated players are generally better than lower rated players -- this Ohio State class is going to surprise me...A LOT. I was certain M would top out around 6-8 -- it may be lower now -- so I had zero doubt Big J and his March shit-talking was insane. HOWEVER, I was also certain Ohio State would be outside the top 5. I'm dead wrong on that.

I was pretty disappointed in a couple recruiting losses OSU had at the end of the 2023 class where they just got slammed by NIL. I made two assumptions: (1) NIL would continue as-is for southern schools and (2) OSU wouldn't react fast enough. Both were wrong. From everything I've read, NIL is reverting to mean with some force. The crazy-ass exhuberane of the first two years is giving way to, well, sustainability. And Ohio State's NIL game is now at least competitive with sustainable. It's not competitive with batshit crazy, but then again, you'd probably have to go to Miami for that and, well, you'd have go to Miami.

CRD is a god-awful head coach, but he and his staff are really good recruiters. Really good. With the modest changes in NIL landscape, I think OSU an at least continue to bring in enough talent to paper over CRD's borderline ineptitude. It won't be enough to win the B10...and it won't even be enough to finish 2nd once the Genius of Lincoln arrives in 2024. But, they should still make the 12-team CFP way more often than not. Small victories.

                          • Again, no one disputes that recruiting rankings are 100% right. They are, however, excellent predictors of future success. Indeed, they predicted M would win 13 of the 14 games they played in 2022 and predict 11-1 in 2023.

The notion that "recruiting rankings are not an accurate indicator [of] future successes" is completely disproved by the facts And offering up one-off examples to a macro discussion is either intentionally waiving the white flag or just plain stupid. I don't really care which.

It's also worth noting that recruiting assessments become more accurate with more information -- i.e., seeing the player. They didn't see players as much back in, say, 1998 or 2003. They see way more of them.

It's akin to the NFL draft. Would you rather have a first round pick or 7th round pick. It's obvious to me that I'd prefer the 1st round pick even though I could list off dozens of first round picks that have flopped. Some would just toss their hands up and say -- "not all first round picks work out so it's all meaningless!!!" Those people are have to be trolling. No one is that stupid. But, some just can't take getting their ass handed to them. So, they repeat the same stupid "but this guy" arguments over and over and over.

It's probably better than talking M recruiting at the moment, but, man....sooooooooo tiresome and stupid.

If he commits, and actually signs an LOI, lets see what his final star rating will be, along with Michigan's class ranking.

Its easily predictable to me. But, recruiting services accurately predict future success, so let us all see together.
