  • I wouldn't call this new news on Shea Patterson but it expands it a bit.

People that seem to be in the know about this still think the hurdle is high for him to escape sitting out a year. As it stands right now, he is not among Ole Miss players who will have auto-eligibility to play if they choose to transfer. Under current NCAA rules, only Seniors, or players that would miss playing in a bowl game due to the 2y bowl ban meted out by the NCAA on Friday have that.

When all is said and done, after Ole Miss' sanctions were announced, it was clear the NCAA had questionable tactics and was determined to make an example of Ole Miss.

    • I thought UMiss imposed a one-year bowl ban on themselves (this year), which the NCAA followed with an additional one-year ban. If Patterson is a Junior, that means he cannot play in a bowl.

      • Why would the NCAA do any favor to Michigan and grant Shea Patterson immediate eligibility?
We are talking about Michigan here, not the $EC or ACC.

Dylan McCaffrey ... that is all.

        • Cody: you have been correct often enough that I take your word for it. Your Kelly to UCLA was spot on. Whether you are at Talent's level in recruiting remains to be seen.

          • The thinking on the Shea Patterson transfer deal goes something like this ......

Patterson is not among Ole Miss players auto eligible to play if they transfer. That's a fact based on the correct reading of the NCAA rules in this particular case.

The NCAA rules on eligibility upon transfer allow appeals.

Insiders involved with Patterson on his side and on M's side probably have a good idea of the likelihood of Patterson being immediately eligible to play in 2018. That the smoke around a Patterson transfer to M continues suggests that the odds of a waiver being granted by the NCAA in Patterson's case are a shade better than 50/50.

Patterson won't transfer if he can't play and M won't take him until they know he CAN play.

We'll probably know the outcome before the start of classes at M on 01/03/2018.

            • 247 is reporting that Shea Patterson will visit M this weekend. There is also a comment that his people believe that he'll be able to play in 2018 either under the terms of the NCAA Ole Miss Sanctions differently interpreted or by waiver.

...... and let's be clear. I don't think getting Shea Patterson to QB M is some kind of instant recipe for a CFB Playoff berth in 2018. It's another bullet in the chamber. JH is more likely to mold Patterson to play to Harbaughffense than he is to change Harbaughffense to fit Patterson's playing style. O'Korn definitely couldn't do that and forced M to severely limit the O to things he was less likely to screw up. For all we know, Patterson could pan out to be the same.

              • As this year's team glaring weakness was QB play, bringing in this very talented, experienced kid could be huuuuuge.

Think Russell Wilson level of impact.

                    • It'd be awesome. The more we hear about this, the better... they know more about Shea's potential to waive 2018 ineligibility than us.

Any word of Greg Little possibly joining Shea? Imagine that.

                      • That would be huge. Patterson is a talent. So is Little.

                            • I don’t give a shit about Patterson but if Little comes with him in a package deal, then offer Shea the starting job for all I care. A 5-star left tackle? That would be maybe the biggest addition in college football.

                              • ASU commit Jarrett Patterson, 4-star OT, 6'5", 285 lbs has de-committed and is considering Michigan among others.

He played LT @ Mission Viejo H.S.

ASU still in it, along with UCLA and Michigan.

Can't find any new news on Greg Little 2016 5* OT Ole Miss confirming a visit this weekend.

It's encouraging that from all appearances, Harbaugh et. al. are going after some serious OT talent.
