Everyone thinks their program doesn't "negative recruit" and that everyone else does. The kids who commit to the school all sing the praises of how their coach "only sold them on that school" while occasionally pointing out how other coaches bad-mouthed schools.
The best programs don't generally have to do it. They sell themselves. As AA said, it doesn't work. Really doesn't.
I haven't really heard many recruits say UFM does it. I can't recall any. All I've heard is JH's "jive turkey" line which mentions no one and is remarkably self-serving. Franklin was pissed at the bulk of the B10 conference for "negative recruiting" on potential PSU sanctions.
Whatever.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
He did not do it at Florida at all. If he does it now, that's new.
Correct. He spun a ton of bullshit -- how he pulled Shariff Floyd from Tressel....motherfucker...but it wasn't at all about OSU. But, HARBAUGH!!!! said this in December:
"A lot of this talk is coming from our enemies," he said. "From coaches who, and you know the names. You probably know the names of the top three that I'm referring to. They like to say (I'm leaving) to the media, they like to tell that to recruits and their families to try to manipulate them into going to another school besides Michigan.
"But we know them as jive turkeys."
So, there you go....

I'm sure that there are some schools that don't do it much. It's probably unwise to take that approach. I've got no problem with negative recruiting if it's true. If B1G coaches are not negatively recruiting against chronic oversigners by reminding recruits and moms that they could be culled in August, then they are stupid for that. I know that recruits tend to think that it couldn't be them, but you can't tell me that there aren't any recruits (or mom's) who wouldn't be swayed by that.

A friend of mine has a kid who was recruited by Florida under Urban. He was, "Here's where we see you, here are our facilities, note the Crystal footballs, here is where we see you playing, here is what you need to do to be successful. What do you think?"
Kid ended up at another school. Said they kept recruiting but never even mentioned the other schools, ever.

Agree with all of that. On a case-by-case basis I'm sure everybody does it.
It happens routinely these days in Ann Arbor. Word spreads that another four- or five-star prep thoroughbred has announced, from somewhere in America or beyond, that he’s committing to play football for Jim Harbaugh and Michigan.
Agree on Lynn Bowden, but M wasn't interested for off the field reasons... M wanted Dotson but he went elsewhere due to depth chart allegedly... Concur with Sibley too, I'd gladly trade Kurt Taylor for him.
