It's less likely and also the dollar amounts would be lower, since M doesn't have an organized network. Too many "follow the rules" boosters and potential whistleblowers. The kinds of money thrown around in the SEC and at places like Clemson require a pretty sophisticated network.

Well, look, if a school is paying kids then they're going to pay the #1 kids in the country. I don't know if M does or doesn't. If they do then I'd say it's a goddamn certainty they paid Gary SOMETHING. I mean....he's ain't Josh Mettullus, right?
But, anyway, yeah, the noble M men carry the day. When does Buchanan go back to Myanmar? :-)Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

I do firmly believe Hannibal's larger point that it is an accepted part of the culture in parts of the SEC and especially in the South Florida. Which means the risk of whistleblowing is low. Of course, it's all fucking untraceable. So that point is meh. But it also means they likely pay more and for more players. Eh, whatever.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

For Michigan, it's isolated $100 handshakes. You don't get a network of boosters to create a slush fund that you can use to pay a guy $500,000 over four years and also get his mom a new job at the factory. I'm guessing that Gary will never have to scrape together money for a pizza or a new pair of shoes if he wants one, but I'd also bet that he's not getting any duffel bags full of cash.

This. And I have no problem with it at all.
For what it's worth and for talent's benefit, I gave up the notion of M walking around with a halo over it's head, always taking the high road and all that shit a few minutes after it became obvious that Chris Weber took money to play for M.
It's reality in college sports and always has been. If, as an M fan, you held on to the notion that M never crossed the line in football or b-ball regarding taking care of it's players in ways that went beyond work-study and scholarships, you were seriously deluded.
In Gary's case, whatever it was, I'm glad it happened; but the Gary outcome shows that those fucks down South aren't going to buy players from under M's nose.
HAARBAUGH!!!! ..... and may whatever did go down with Gary NEVER be traceable back to him.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
