  • The landscape is very different.

And I don't think JH is doing a bad job at all. I think he'll end up with a good class. I'm just trying to figure out his approach -- even a little bit. I also think his approach will have far greater clarity for 2017 when he's had the necessary time to fully recruit those kids.

    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

    • JH came into a program that had lost all its recruiting momentum that had a coach that was on the hot seat, won just 5 games the previous season and had won more than 8 games just once in the past 7 seasons...

I'll re-evaluate but for now, JH is doing much better out-of-state that I expected and in-state, much worse. That will change if JH does like Lloyd Carr and finishes as bridesmaid for all his national recruits.

      • I'm not asking the guy to beat OSU in recruiting this year but it looks like some of our toughest battles against the most important guys won't be against OSU. Hayes and Hill are committed to USC and Penn State, respectively. Penn State doesn't have "scoreboard" on us, nor do they have recent success. Our chief competition for Bredenson is reported to be Wisconsin. They may have recent history but not by a ton. Does Harbaugh really need to win a BCS bowl before he will have credibility going head-to-head against Wisconsin?

        • I think in-season momentum will make a difference. A win against Sparty a bigger one.

          • Bredeson is from Wisconsin though. And they do pretty damn good developing OLinemen. So yes. It's tough to go head to head against wiscy for him. (Not that it matters but I thought it was a ND/M battle for him)

            • Bredeson has a brother at M, which is a huge help for M. Just like being from Wisky is a huge help for them... Supposedly newer information has Bredeson top 2 as M vs ND with Wisky a legitimate threat at #3; insiders are pretty split on who leads...

In-season momentum will help (or potentially hurt) a lot with these kids that will wait to make a decision after the season, or for M to flip a kid. In-season results matter, not as much as some people think but they certainly do and ime more so in M's case this season. M coming off a 5-win season needs to show a lot more than say a 7-5 regular season, 8-4 might be 'barely' enough. 9-3 should create enough positive momentum to get real interest from kids from California, Texas and other top 100 overall talent around the country.

              • Magnus on Touch the Banner has an interesting write-up on Onwenu. He likes him way better as a nose tackle.

                • I know the information I was receiving in February'ish liked him more as a DT than OL and had him listed as a DT on my recruiting board till recently.

                  • I think his film is definitely better on D, but scouts insist it's offensee.

                    • I always thought of him as an OL. Also, is he really 360? I thought closer to 310.

                      • He's really thick, everywhere; chest, legs, arms. Supposedly, yeah really 360.

                        • Sounds like he would be more valuable as a nose tackle. Those fire hydrant type guys are really hard to find.

                          • Chris Evans RB/ATH decision is off, sounds like more major programs are suddenly chasing him that are close to offering.

                            • Mixed messages regarding a potential Evans decision...

Khalid Kareem decision is set for June 24th. M tried their best at getting back into it with him. Insiders think it'll be M or Sparty. Remember he was a former Spartan commit for a bit.
