  • Urban Meyer is a cocksucker.

DSL & Talent are a cheap, neutered, metrosexual versions of Beavis & Butthead.

Your use of WWII & German imagery, brilliant.

Those pansyass, hippie draft dodgers never faced the working end of Hitler's Heavy Gustov railgun!

    • Woody stockpiled unholy amounts of talent with no scholarship limits. He rarely played a team that was more talented than his, especially from 1968 onward. When M played OSU, the talent was roughly equivalent and the games were typically coin toss games. As you'd expect with coin toss games, the distribution of Ws and Ls was nearly even.

As I said, if "grit" and "great leadership" were a hallmark of JH's Stanford teams, I'm at an f'n loss as to why he went 17-20 in his first 3 years and then watched his best team open up a 21-3 lead on the road against Oregon only to run out of the gym 49-10 to close for a 52-31 asswhipping.

All of this is way off topic. What puzzles me is what you can't just say JH is a better coach than UFM. I mean, you think coaching is two parts. You think 1 part is even and JH is better in the other part (on zero evidence). So just say it and quit hem-hawing around.

      • I'm of the opinion the B10 is poop despite a few good games by its only decent teams in January... The exception to that is ufm ohio squad who is as talented, well coached as any team in the nation and is getting even more talented...

M can very easily go from 5-7 to 10-2 because the B10 is that awful/mediocre in the middle... Look at the Spartan's 2014 schedule last season when they played an opponent that wasn't one of their 3 OOC cupcakes or Indiana:

        *at Oregon Ducks Lost 46-27
        *Nebraska Cornhuskers Won 27-22
        *at Purdue Boilermakers Won 45-31
        *Michigan Wolverines Won 35-11
        *Ohio Buckeyes Lost 49-37
        *at Maryland Terrapins Won 37-15
        *Rutgers Scarlet Knights Won 45-3
*at Penn State Nittany Lions Won 34-10
        *Baylor Bears Won 42-41

Sparty played 3 top 10 teams in Ohio, Oregon & Baylor and won 1 of the 3. Both Baylor's coach and players gifted that game to Sparty in the 4th quarter, it was a great game but it was one of the worst quarters of coaching I've seen in over a decade...

Sparty deservingly gets credit for running the table against their mediocre-to-lousy B10 opponents like a talented team with very good coaching should... I'm of the opinion that the Big Ten East being a great division or even being even close to the level of the SEC West or even the SEC West is a joke. It might be in 2-3 years IF and when M and Penn State are truly back to being 10+ win programs but in the meantime it's Ohio being at a level no B10 has been since the 70's, Sparty & poop.

        • Yep. If M and PSU meet traditional expectations and top 2 carry on, East will be legit.

          • I forget where I read an article about the projected top 50 players in the 2016 NFL draft, but 6 were from OSU. And 3 of the top 10 were from Ole Miss. UM had 0.

Back in the days of the 10 year war, Woody's second stringers would have finished no worse than third in the B10. But I strongly prefer the 105 scholarship limit to the current 85. Let the players sort it out.

In those days, the best Class C player in this part of the state was Mike Hankwitz, a "tight end". He had it all, but he only kicked off for UM for 3 years. He has been a highly successful coach, now the DC for Northwestern. I wonder what his career would have been had he chosen to go to Indiana. He would have played more, but would he have been as good a coach later.

If you went to Ohio and saw the talent there, I suspect you got a feel for what the level of play must be in the pros. Shoot, I remember the days when the college all-stars played the NFL champs, and sometimes it was a decent game.

            • My dentist received a football scholarship from Bo Schembechler, and U-M. He never played a down.

However, he does make me do 10 push ups and run 10 wind sprints in his lobby before I can get in the chair ....

... and since he was a child of the 70's, .. I get all the Nitrous I want ....

              • heh

Does he regret the experience? I'll bet not.

                • I'm sure he doesn't regret it at all.

He's the most popular dentist in town.

And he's a good one too.

                  :-)

Yeah, it is off topic, sort of, but its a decent discussion that will probably not have a definitive outcome because "better coach" is pretty damn subjective terminology outside of W/L records. And that's a really poor objective indicator because there are so many uncontrolled for variables in any kind of analysis using that as a baseline measure.

Anyway, I hold that JH has more potential energy than ufm does right now. ufm can only fall on his face this season after reaching the heights. He'll get negative press if he looses two games. Harbaugh can afford to lose a few games and still get praise. Moreover, I predict a health crisis for urbz if does backslide. He has a record of such things. I'd prefer to be in JH's shoes, not in ufms. It is frigging hard to stay on top. Just ask The Nick.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I have no clue why wins/championships/etc. are a "really poor objective indicator" of coaching ability. I get why you'd want to say that (UFM's career record is 142-26 with 3 national titles! -- JH won't match or exceed that). But, I mean, c'mon.

As for the other stuff, well, I mean if your point is that JH has more room to improve M than UFM does for OSU, well, duh!

I still don't get why you won't just say JH > UFM. I mean, you have have quantified coaching into two elements. One element you consider even and the other element you give the advantage to JH. Setting aside whether those elements are correct or not, the important thing is they are correct IYO so, ergo, IYO JH > UFM.

                          • Pretty positive they've all been offered. They've "offered" everyone and their brother outside the Midwest.

                            • They'd accept commits from almost anyone on the above list. Lots of four star types that if they don't get to AA this summer, will be deciding in December after their officials. Looks like a national class that'll fill up quite late...

Opposite of Sparty who is filling up on midwest 3 stars in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio.
