I'm not expecting much from this years class even with all of the talk. Harbaugh basically has 2 weeks to in process, get his coaching staff together and start doing the research on recruits he'd want to try to sway. Thats on top of uprooting his life and rolling into Ann Arbor.

After that he has basically 2 weeks to talk to recruits and try to get as many to AA as possible. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not expecting the world from him straight off the bat.
    F#*K OHIO!!!

    • Long time lurker. Actually discovered this place because of the Lions forum. Congrats (presumably) on the hire. I could see anywhere from 8-4 to 10-2 next year due to the massive question mark at the QB position. Due to the quality of the B1G (or lack there of it) I would say 10-2 to 12-0, but as of now that QB spot is a huge unknown. You guys had 2 years of great recruiting under Hoke and those guys will be the upperclassmen next year. So the talent is in place. I think 2016 will be the year to look towards though. Your QB situation in 2015 combined with 2015 being a very good year for OSU (at least on paper and if nobody declares early; they are returning basically 8/11 on both sides of the ball including many who were freshmen and sophomores this year).

As for recruiting, I see what most are saying. Top 10 classes most years, maybe in that top 5 as well. But it won't be top 10 this year. Liney, you may not be following recruiting much this year it sounds like, but UM is actually at 90 right now. Of course that is due to a severely low number of recruits, but top 10 still won't be able to happen this year. If I were UM I'd be happy finishing top 30, ecstatic with top 20.

      • They'll be top 20. Bet it. And that's only for the low number of schollies.

        • The qb position is definitely a weakness with U of M. Coupled with Harbaugh maybe there is a chance for a bluechip like Josh Rosen to land there. He'd be top dog at least by his sophomore year.

On to Harbaugh and recruiting ...

He will have 2 weeks of dead period to deal with, where he will likely spend his time firming up his staff, and also identifying the targets for his recruiting efforts.

I think he and his staff will hit the ground running the day the dead period is over. Phone calls, personal visits, whatever it takes. I'm sure he will be burning up jet fuel getting around the country and into recruits homes, .. at least the ones who are truly interested.

I think he will persuade a few of the de-commits to re-commit, as long as he sees them fitting the program, and they have the character that he demands. He may gauge interest from some that haven't shown any Michigan interest at all, if he feels they fit the program.

You can bank on the idea that he's not just going to fill spots on the roster. He's going to bring in guys that can help the team. No more Dave Cone's.....

            • Greg Mattison had instant name recognition success when he showed up at M and went on to visit a targeted recruit.

Harbaugh is going to have 10X that.

We could be mistaken here as HS recruits are flakey at best but I'd suspect that everyone, even those with minor interest in playing football for Michigan, have been following this story.

Harbaugh and whomever he brings on as his assistants are going to have a unique opportunity to grab some talent between January 15th and NSD.

There was a decent piece at mgoblog about recouping decommits. I don't know enough about recruiting to say one way or the other but a couple of obvious names, like Mike Weber, were among those that this writer thought it best not to pursue.

The reason for that is that there are better options. The point being, the unique opportunity Harbaugh and his staff will have, opens up possibilities that weren't there before. Like 5* QB and UCLA commit, Josh Rosen. Some think he will decommitt and follow Harbaugh who he has admired since he started playing football.

So, it appears, at this point anyway, Harbaugh can be picky.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

He can make phone calls during the dead period and personal visits to coaches. He's probably already got an idea of what his staff is and better be hitting the ground running this week.

                • Also about the dead period. I believe that it's no personal visits, but that other forms of communication (phone calls etc) are allowed. So there might be some early movement during the "dead period".

                    • I hope UFM does as well against JH as Petey. As it stands, looks like Ohio State is doomed. Fortunately it seems like OSU doesn't have any commits good enough to draw JH's interest. Whew.

                      • For the record, I said before that Harbaugh was the home run hire, but I still think UFM is the best coach in the Big Ten. Hopefully Harbaugh can change my mind.

                        • JH is a HR hire. No doubt.

I would think that JH will have a similar relationship with UFM. Its just the natural thing to happen. I doubt that JH will be downright disrespectful, although I'm sure Ohio folks will interpret some things that way.

And, they'll both be going after the same recruiting targets soon enough. I expect JH to win a few of those battles. Maybe not all, but a few. Hopefully enough to make a difference on game day.

As far as M v Ohio, for now, I'd settle for Michigan holding serve each year in Ann Arbor. Wins in Columbus can come later.

Hell yes!! I'd love to see JH give Dantonio the "Petey" treatment and go for two after we're up 6 TDs and then tell MD to go fuck himself when he starts his usual whining.

                                That's my dream scenario anyway.
