Center is a complicated position that requires years of development. I remember when Nick Mangold was no better than that Miller guy. Give Hoke time. He has a plan. Things are on the right track. Stay the course.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Looking back at shitty recruiting classes? Why? Again -- as long as we've got coaches here now making obvious and crucial blunders, what point is there in blaming the kids? In the past three years the defensive coordinators of OSU, PSU and MSU have publicly talked of how easy it was to know what was coming from our offense despite its myriad formations, and so have quite a few players. And that's on the record. The anonymous quotes pile up much higher. For the life of me I don't get why you would focus on whether this kid was a three-star or that kid was a walkon when you've got coaches who are clearly putting players of all types of pedigrees in a position to fail. In particular given our in-state rival who is a part of this discussion is succeeding with inferior recruits! Step back a minute, I suggest, and see if that makes any sense at all.

Hoke's 4 year honeymoon will come to an abrupt end when Appalachian State keeps it ridiculously close or perhaps will lightening strike twice?
Was waiting for DB to tell the Michigan ingrates how to feel about the pending season. Privately I'm certain he is in full panic mode and If he wants to hold on to his job, he'd better start working on Hoke's replacement PDQ.

There's a drumbeat now, which is great. Brandon hopefully is a dead man walking, and the stadium streak hopefully will be the final nail. As for Hoke, I have a feeling this season is going to be a big improvement on the field. Dunno if it be enough. I think the answer to that question probably has to start with who is available to succeed Hoke as of late November. I think it also has to consider whether the regents trust Brandon to make the hire, or whether they'd rather bring in someone else to do that.

And by all measures they are talented players, but that's incoherent. You're saying that it's up to the kids to overcome the shit coaching, and if they don't then it's not the fault of the coaches who recruited those kids in the first place?

Given that coaches locate and select talent, motivate talent to improve and design schemes to put that talent in a position to succeed, I'd put thier impact at approximately 75%. Closer to 80% for a program like Michigan that can largely select talent from a deeper and more talented pool than competitors. To be a professional means that you don't die. - Takeru "the Tsunami" Kobayashi

Hack, I think your position is supportable, your argument compelling. I'm right there with you for the most part.
But we've had a couple of good posts arguing MSU's program is better than M's right now because Dantonio has had the benefit of 3 years of roster stability and depth with a talent level about equal to that of M's. It took Dantonio until his 4th season as HC to post a double digit winning record going 11-2 in 2010. He relieved JLS after the 2006 season.
I'm not prepared just yet to give Hoke and his staff any breaks. I think the arguments that they have compiled a record pointing to poor player development are strong. That is concerning. OTH, the lack of M's roster depth and stability compared to MSU's is a good argument that tends to allow some latitude in assessing Hoke's performance to date.
I'm still in a show me mode regarding excuses proffered that tend to ameliorate the shit performance we've seen from his football teams. His team HAS to perform this season for me to get off the get rid of him band wagon.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I get very concerned with the number of true freshmen that Hoke and co rely on. I'm looking forward to the day when the norm is that players sit and learn for two or three years before starting for two good years.
