I figured that they would line McDowell up next to Pipkins.

Coaching staff really likes Willie Henry, he's going to play quite a bit next season. Transition to college for defensive tackles is tougher than most other positions, where in high school they could just dominate their opponents...
I don't see a huge difference between the NT and 3-tech, at least not till M can find a true NT. They are largely interchangeable. Pipkins was just starting to look like a player before he was injured, I see him as a likely starter next season.

Getting handouts is so widely accepted now that I don't think that you can rely on a "good" kid to stay an amateur.
I wonder what Drake Harris thought watching that game? Perhaps "why in god's green earth can no one in this state run an offense that doesn't make my eyes bleed."Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

TomVH on twitter: ``JuJu Smith said he thinks Michigan is a great school, but not a fit for him. Cancelled his visit said losses caused them to drop on his list.''
mgoblog says this kinda thing is rare, and that a sucky season impacts later classes and not the current one. And the kid was a longshot anyways. So maybe it's a nice low-impact wake-up call. Hopefully.
But probably not.Last edited by hack; November 7, 2013, 12:40 PM.

He wasn't on my recruiting board (as of Aug 27th yet still up to date imo) but he always intended to visit which after said visit could've landed him on my recruiting board. I think there is a good chance M signs a 'safety' type player in this class but looking at my recruiting board, there is no one RIGHT NOW that is likely.

WM, I'm just curious. Were all our current OL players OL players or were they "OL type players" that now play OL. I know I posted (asked) something a few weeks ago about recruiting kids that "were" position players rather than "position type" players. Guess what I'm trying to ask is are we recruiting, or have a history of recruiting, round peg type players and them putting them in square peg type positions. I suspect some of this is done out of necessity (injuries etc) but is M guilty of doing this with any regularity?

Don't quite understand the question as phrased...
The staff seems to like tall, well built corners and those that grow out of that position end up at safety but is still willing to take a smaller corner...
They prefer athletic freaks at SAM, a guy who can be a 5th defensive lineman and hold up against the run but also cover a tight end... WILL and MLB are very similar to this staff, you can get away with being lighter at WILL as you take on less OL, FB's...
People have complained a bit about 'true' offensive tackles (Erik Magnuson), I think the staff targets them appropriately but they just land more OT/OG types like Ben Braden, Chris Fox...
This staff obviously prefers receivers 6'2" or taller, 200+ lb with a long wingspan at the expense of elite speed and quickness. A bad throw to a guy like Gallon could be hauled in by a guy like Chesson, Darboh...
The three DT positions are all 'relatively' interchangeable; NT, 3-tech & SDE...
Quarterback they clearly don't emphasize speed but both Speight & Morris are better runners than guys like Navarre, Brady, Girbach, Henne, etc.
For the most part, the players you see on the field aren't the staffs 'ideal' players, these are still mostly RR's recruits with a handful of freshman and true sophomores mixed in...
