  • Al Borges building Tight End Heaven:

The Hinsdale (Ill.) High School tight end was one of the country's most sought recruits at the position, with offers in from Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and others. But Bunting settled on the Wolverines, and did so early, pledging to the program April 23. He had, after all, seen his future.

    • I was just wondering regariding the "family" atmosphere statement by Bunting... Does anyone know if the football program (specifically) offers any sort of day car program as a perk for any of the players who may have children--a place where they might be able to take their children when they are at classes, have practice, games etc. and/or the wives-parners are at classes etc. Probably not a big deal as most players do not have children but may the type of thing that could attract the occasional talented recruit and would fit right in with the family atmosphere thing particularly if the center is house somewhere in the football complex.

I'm guessing that this would be construed as an illegal benefit.

        • Kaleb Ringer LB leaves the program...

He had a lot of competition in his class (Ross, Bolden, Jenkins-Stone), the starters in front of him (Jake Ryan, Desmond Morgan) and M is recruiting terrific LB talent behind him. Part of the 'expected' attrition even before M can sign 17-19 recruits.

          • As I understand it, illegal benefits are anything that an athlete may get, that another student cannot get, because they are not an athlete.

So if the university has a student day care center, players with kids would be allowed to use it for their kids, if they have any.

An idea that's been used for years in Columbus, although down there the players get to keep the cars around-the-clock.

              • I wonder if Kaleb will head to MSU, given his brother's history there.

                • never mind... Kaleb is headed to Ferris State.

Yes. Student athletes should have the right to get jacked for cash by the various university daycares just like regular students do. UM Towsley Center for Children took a P.D. day yesterday. As it often does.

                    • Ringer would not have been able to transfer to another B1G school with a scholarship. As with Justina Boren, he would have had to have his parents pay his way. By going to Ferris, he can gain immediate eligibility, and they'll probably find some $$ to pay his tuition. Ferris isn't rolling in dough ...

                      • I think they've considered softening that rule, not sure if they actually did.

Saw the typo but it was too late. Ironically, I thought the same thing.

Thanks as that makes sense. But what about all the "free" tutoring and other such stuff the players get? I'm guessing those must be spelled out somewhere as permissable benefits for the players.

                            • Didn't one of the basketball players brag about getting free taxi rides?

                              • McGary never said that the rides were free just that the driver would get him if he called. I've had a cabbie here in A2 give me his business card and tell me I was a priority pick-up (I'm a good tipper) so it could be something like that.
