  • Bunting was injured as a junior is why he didn't play much and when he did play, he was used as a receiver. Obviously his future is likely more of a receiving tight end but I could see him filling out and becoming a solid blocker...

He'll certainly be a 4-star as will Wilton Speight when rivals adjusts rankings later this summer.

I think that's the plan, at some point. We're loading up on tight end and H-back types.

      • It will be interesting to see where Khalid Hill and Wyatt Shallman fit in to the new offense. I still think Shallman may play defense.

        • M doesn't really need SDE types (Wormley, Strobel, Godin, Charlton), I think he'll stay on offense at TE, H-Back.

          • Anyone got ESPN Insider? Article stating the Peppers will know his school soon. I refuse to pay for that garbage. Probably misinformation anyway.

            • M is his presumed leader with Stanford not far behind.

              • After seeing Shallman a couple times, I think I'd like seeing him as a LB. Not sure how he'd like going to defense full time though. He seems to indicate that he likes the FB spot.

                • Again, LB isn't a 'need'. He's got as good as talent in front of him at LB with guys like Ross, Jenkins-Stone, Bolden, Gedeon & McCray...

He's most needed at TE/FB/H-Back. In high school, he was thought highly as a DE. Seeing the talent M recruited behind and in the same class at DE/LB, I think he stays on offense and I'm someone that wanted him to stay at DE for quite awhile.

                  • Shallman would never see the light of day at LB on Mattison's team with the talent he has recruited there.

That's all it said? Well no shit.

                      • Oh no, I was just giving the latest I know (from rivals and Peppers himself). That article might have newer information.

                            • What's the story on Brady Pallante? He's not highly regarded by the services, but he got an early Michigan offer in a year when they don't have a ton of scholarships to offer. Does anyone expect his star rating to increase once he becomes more scrutinzed?

                              • he may get up to a 3-star ... he's got some upside. But keep in mind he is grey shirt and will not count to this year's tally unless we are left with open scholly slots. Otherwise he will not count against our scholarships numbers until the following year.

It will be interesting to see how this year plays out with respect to recruiting. I think the previous years, Hoke and Co. really pressed to get early commitments because of our woeful depth. They couldn't take a chance on waiting till the end to land the big fish/ 5-stars (like Satan, Urbie, and others), and hence one of the reasons why we always finished with a whimper trying to hold off Ohio and others from poaching our recruits.

For the first time (with the exception of at WR), our depth is not too bad ... it will be interesting to see if Hoke maintains a lot of open spots into 2014, hoping to land some of the 5-stars who have us in their top 5. If so, the Saban-esque strategy of having a few grey-shirts in the back pocket is not a bad idea.
