Please support the Forum by using the Amazon Link this Holiday Season
Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.
Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.
If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!
Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.
Stay safe and well and thank you for your participation in the Forum and for your support!! --Deborah

UM Football Recruiting - by WM Wolverine

This is a sticky topic.

It'll takes years to figure out if these diamonds in the rough actually are or they are what the recruiting services rated them as. St. Juste being Canadian obviously didn't get any exposure and that's usually what is needed with these diamonds in the rough. That said, JH accepted commits from tons of kids who weren't M caliber that M later found someone more talented at their spot.

While there may be "diamonds in the rough" HS players, there is no getting around the direct relationship between a college players NFL draft status and the stars they came out of HS with.
The rest of it is a crap shot.
Talent.
Having said that, I've got no quarrel with JH's recruiting so far. You have to build a program back to elite status when that program has been destroyed through its mismanagement over a decade's time. I think the NFL bent Harbaugh has brought to M (NFL coaches) and the NFL hype he's poured on his approach to recruiting is going to pay dividends AFTER the dynasty tag is applied like it has been at programs like Alabama and osu and like those programs, strong relationships are formed between M's hopefully stable coaching staff and hot bed HS football programs.
It's a process. Harbaugh understands that. Impatient M fans often don't.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

FWIW, most all 4-stars are known quantities that's been evaluated many times by the recruiting services. Three stars are sometimes kids who've flown under the radar but not as many programs and recruiting services have seen them play; I reiterate the sometimes as the recruiting services are imo quite good when they have the opportunity to really evaluate a recruit.
Dantonio has built his program that's averages 10+ wins a season and mostly all 3-stars. Sparty has 24 more wins than M since 2008.
