    • Lots of very, very good information, exceptions to every rule but it's a really good summary of what's important in recruiting... Explosiveness is a huge one, first 5 yards are more critical than yards 5-40...

Some recruiting services confirm offers with the coaching staffs but the legitimacy of an offer nowadays isn't near what it once was which makes the list of offers even less valuable than it was 10+ years ago...

I'd add on one of his points with, always remember the source. When a recruit talks to an insider for the Wolverines, the recruit is likely going to talk favorably about the Wolverines. Now what does the recruit say about the Wolverines when he talks to the insider from Louisiana? Even then, that insider will paint a rosy picture about the situation for the Tigers even though they have little to no chance... Notre Dame insiders were notorious for nevering mentioning M in their articles when everyone would know the recruit was a near lock to go to M...

One win means next to nothing in recruiting but a program that goes 10-3 in '16 as opposed to one that goes 8-5 (just a 2 game swing) is perceived to have a much better future than the latter? The former will have more momentum with recruits, media, etc.

Switching positions is very much an issue. Dymonte Thomas was an 'athlete' out of high school, a really good running back but played both ways. He's yet to do much of anything at his weaker high school position despite being plenty athletic to play that position.

      • I don't buy the "bigger guys get injured less often" argument. Injuries are a product of bad luck, bad technique, or bad strength and conditioning but not size.

        • Yes Jamie H. LOL

Why do you think they have weight divisions for boxing, martial arts and wrestling?

Yeah. He touches on this with "know your recruiting analyst" and more generally, heh, "recruiting articles are trash."

I'd also add to the "watch what they do not what they say" -- THIS VERY MUCH INCLUDES TWITTER!!!!!

I'd also add, if the announcement is public, then "there has to be a second hat at the table and there has to be drama."

I also like that he's skeptical of kids who play bad competition.

            • Vincent Smith and Jamie Morris were both small running backs and I don't have any memory of either of those guys getting injured. Brandon Minor was much larger than both of those guys and he was injured constantly. Ask Ondre Pipkins and Chris Bryant about how easy it is for big guys to avoid injury.

I'd bet anything that the "smaller guys get injured more" theory wouldn't hold up to any kind of statistical analyses.

              • It will be interesting to watch Sparty fans backpedal now...

From the RCMB: "The SCumtards are dripping vagicil from their ambiguious loins about Whorebaugh's whoreific attempts to out SEC the SEC.They are desperate. Whorbaugh himself is desperate. The little attention whore headcases SCum is appealing to will rot them from the inside, like the Gauls rotted Rome. Mark my words."

From Mark Dantonio: "I think it's creative, there's no question about that," Dantonio said, asked what he thought of Michigan holding four practices at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. "From our standpoint, we've never thought to do that, but we're thinking about it nowadays."

                • Doesn't watching a kids tape show his explosiveness in some form or fashion? Good luck for any average Person trying to catch a highschool game in Florida if he lives in Texas. While I agree seeing the kid in person gives you a more complete view, I disagree that "film only" people should be laughed at. What do all fucking coaches and players do?? Watch film. Sounds like he is trying to protect his own interests as a scout...I was there believe me, he wasn't fuck him.

I agree with the majority of the other points in the article.

                  • I think his point is that one that is reflected in how coaches recruit. Sure, some kids jump off film. But most of the time they want to see the kid live, either at their camp or in a game. BTW, camps definitely count. This was the whole point of the "trust HARBAUGH!!!! CAMP OFFER!!!" meme of the summer.

It's his opinion. He always, always, always says whether he's seen the kid live or not, and when it's just film he always says something to the effect "take it for what's worth because I've only see him on film."

I think the recruiting process typically proceeds by winnowing down through film then inviting to camp, then evaluating at camp.

                    • LOL. That's why 25 of the top 100 recruits actually flipped.

More often than not it boils down to Teams and coaches on the rise that will increase a kid's chances of making the NFL. Proper coaching, development and brand exposure are huge, Bag Man money is real and extremely persuasive, especially to kids and their families that are the "have nots". JMO.

You're probably one of those people who asks: "Does anyone know the meaning of the word commitment?" That's the wrong way to look at it in the world of recruiting.

I will, however, defer to Prime on all things IMG.

Sheesh. .to listen to that guy you'd think Michigan was on a 10 game winning streak against Sparty. ..

"Whorebaugh"???? And here I thought I was tough on Dantonio by calling him Mike.

Jeremiah Holloman decommits. Probably the 1st of many for '17. Next!
