Sounds like Auburn blundered with Rashan Gary.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh continues to make the #1 overall recruit in the 2016 cycle a priority, keeping in close proximity with the mother and family of Rashan Gary despite the departure of defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin to Maryland.
"(Harbaugh) called me Thursday," Jennifer Coney told Auburn Undercover analyst Keith Niebuhr. "And explained to me how it all works and what a defensive coordinator does."
Meanwhile, Auburn, who has been believed to be a strong candidate for Gary's eventual commitment, may have dropped the ball on a recent recruiting visit, when soon-to-depart defensive coordinator Will Muschamp assured Gary and his family he would be staying at Auburn for the foreseeable future. Three days later, he took the head coaching job at South Carolina, leaving a bitter taste in his family's mouth.
"He should have said, ?Well, if I get the opportunity.? I would respect that," she said. "I would have understood. It?s a job for them. But he didn?t. Muschamp is a liar. A pure liar. ? If I had his number I?d call him."
Coney added that neither Georgia or Alabama, two schools considered contenders for Gary's services, have had any contact with Gary since Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart took the Georgia job, a deal that was believed to have been finalized last week. The five-star prospect is widely regarded as the top overall player in the 2016 class,"in order to lead America you must love America"
