  • I think it is safe to say if Rudock had stayed at Iowa and was facing HARBAUGH!, you'd be hard pressed to find a Michigan pundit or fan that wouldn't mock the QB matchup.

Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
      Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

      • I won't be surprised if Morris is the starter. He's no saviour but he's not chopped liver either. But for Michigan mistake-free QBing truly is a big step up. Even if Ruddock brings no positives, of he can offer the absence of negatives that's great.

        • Never thought I'd see the day when Michigan fans would be excited about having Iowa's 2nd string QB as their starter. No way Morris gets the nod. Harbaugh wants to win now, and Shane Morris is still a big development project at this point.

          • Harbaugh's Kaepernick-over-Smith decision shows that the coach is perhaps willing to live with the growing pains developing a QB on the fly even in a win-now scenario. Morris is a junior, he's started a few games and he's been terribly coached. It's easy to see a scenario in which he takes a leap because he's getting proper coaching for the first time at Michigan. I'm not saying it's likely, but I don't think Rudock is a shoo-in either.

            • Let's don't forget that the best case scenario is that Shane turns around enough to win the starter job. That means he's likely still starter next year, giving the new guys time to develop instead of starting them as freshman which almost never goes well at QB.

              • Morris is a turnover machine. If you have a great running game and can hide him a bit, but M doesn't. Ty Isaac is the wild card. I haven't heard anything good about him beside his talent level. Rudock will be the QB because he has experience and is less likely to throw INTs. I don't believe Harbaugh has the patience to wait on Morris to improve.

That may be true. For me, that has more to do with my utter lack of respect for Iowa's offensive coaching than with Rudock or Shane Morris themselves.

                  • Rudock averaged 7.0 ypa last year with 16 TDs and 5 INTs. 7.0 ypa is what Chad Henne averaged for his career, and his TD/INT ratio was worse.

In addition to the coaching upgrade that we are getting, don't overlook that coaching upgrade that Rudock is getting. I think that Frerentz and Greg Davis suck as offensive coaches. Look at what Greg Davis did to Texas's offense before he got fired.

                    • Under Hoke EVERYONE was a turnover machine -- Denard, Gardner and Morris alike. Good point by Hannibal though that Rudock may have some upside left from getting better coaching too. Either way, agree with drok about Morris as a starter.

                      • OSU landed Bosa today. Michigan needs to counter with Gary. OSU scary good at DE with Bosa, Hall, and Cooper.

                        • M's next big recruiting weekend is the BBQ in early August, possible a couple drop around then...

Needs are: DL, TE, WR, LB and best available talent. David Reese sounds like he'll play LB at M or get a chance to start his career. Still unsure how solid that commitment is...

As far as recruiting, WR & LB they've slow played some players who were possible/likely commits (some have committed elsewhere) in favor of waiting for some elites they thought they had a good chance at. Xavier Kelly was one of those at LB, him opting elsewhere might open up an available spot that M was hoping to land an elite.

Should have news on him tomorrow. Clemson becoming a heavy fav here.

                            • X Kelly is announcing tomorrow I believe, isn't he. Is that a prediction that he is going elsewhere, WM? From what I read, UM has no chance.

                              • M was a very early leader as they noticed him early but he ended up receiving offers from nearly everyone as he's a top 50 overall recruit with a high ceiling. M is believed to have fallen behind a few southern schools for him. This is/was one of the recruits I was hoping would decide in January after M wins 9+ games in '15.
