  • In order not to again make a mistake, I looked up OSU's contract.

Nike has exercised a contract option to extend its three-part agreement with Ohio State until 2018, positioning OSU to bring in about an additional $18.5 million. OSU and Nike signed three separate…

What does "if they sign a full apparel deal with Nike." mean? As you can see OSU breaks their contract into three parts. Beware of lawyers bearing "ifs".

What you have admitted is that you will bet that in 2018, OSU will get a 9% worse deal than UM just got. We are talking about the National Championship Buckeyes, the school that led the nation in attendance in football this past year, with the highest rated recruiting class, and you want to chisel me for a lousey 9%. 9% you cheap bastard! And even then you want to bet $ 100 and not something serious. As my sainted father would say "Hell, I'd pay that to watch a monkey jack off!"

    heh

    • Then you should spend your money that way. I reckon it won't be the first or second time.

In any event I've put up and backed my statement. My understanding of these deals is that they're mixed cash/apparel. I presume cash is preferable and 10M in cash would be better than 5M in cash and 5M in however Nike values apparel. But, like I said, I've backed my statement. And kudos to your wealth. Do you see OP much when yachting?

      • I'm also willing to make same wager on Texas. That resolves itself sooner. Again, backing up my statement.

        • I'd trade OSU for Texas too. Who in their right minds wouldn't take the Longhorns over the Buckeyes in any commercial deal. What we are talking about here is what consumers want. You are always knocking Michigan for being basically irrelevant for 60 years, but you won't put your money where your mouth is. People want to associate themselves with Michigan much more so than OSU.

          This is what you said:

"In the apparel game, UA and Adidas have emerged with big-time offers over the past 10 years or so and are driving up the market. Nike has to respond. And they can. Texas, I think, is up soon. They should get something very similar to M. Ohio State is up in 2017 or 2018 -- I'm guessing they'll get something very similar."

That is where I call you out with some regularity. You have this thing about saying "OSU is about the same as" when they are not even close.

You do it when we talk of cheating. OSU is NOT about the same as Michigan, not even close

You do it when we talk academics. OSU is NOT about the same as Michigan, not even close.

Now you do it when we are talking commercial desirability which is a function of "what school do you want to associate yourself with". OSU is not about the same as Michigan, again, not even close. UM, Texas, and ND have been the traditional leaders in sales, and Alabama has moved above UM and ND in the last couple years. OSU is not close, because who would want to associate themselves with a bunch of cheaters at a middling academic institution? Probably only a public employee lawyer working for the State of Ohio.

And saying you backed up your statement won't make it so. The bet you PROPOSED means UM got at least a 9% better deal now than the one you expect OSU to get in two years. Your exact words, while trying to sit with the big boys was "something similar". Not close to Texas, not close to Michigan, and not close to Notre Dame. OSU has more in common with Florida than it does with any of those three.

In the words of your fight song, as revised by generations of Michigan fans all over the country: OSU: "It's a know-nothing party school".

          • Is sneaker advertising really a recruiting topic? Are the moderators taking the night off? Any more posts like that and I'll need a new scroll wheel.

I can't speak for the other moderators, but this one spends about 14 hours a day involved with his job. So, I get on here when I can.

And, lets bring the discussion back to the topic, please. Michigan Football Recruiting News and Commentary, please.

                Thank you.

                • roger that, but I did move the same question to the other thread too, just didn't know which one would light up. Oh, and I could make a case for the Nike deal relating to recruiting, but won't

From all accounts I've read, St. Juste will be one. I haven't been able to decipher if more will be greyshirted. If so, I imagine Weaver and Metellus would be next on the list.

                        • If UM is going to take 25-28 kids, we are going to have to see some indications of attrition. School starts at some landing spots for transfers in the middle of August. I've heard St. Juste too, and that is good news on Upshur.

Reese taking visits to other schools, Indiana yesterday. No doubt we'll be losing some commits. Earlier I mentioned Weaver and Metellus as possible greyshirts. My only reasoning for those two is because they are our lowest rated players. IMO Greyshirts will be decided by need for the position and if the kid has a chance to go to another school and play and/or join the team immediately.

The annual summer visit has become easily one of the program's top recruiting events and this year's should be one of the best with
