  • Was Jake Ryan even our best player last year? I thought he was mediocre as hell as a middle linebacker.

    • He was out of position, but I think he'll do well for the Packers. They know how to develop players. Frank Clark was spotty his whole career, so, yeah, I think Jake was the best defensive player we had during his 4 years.

      • Darn .. I was hoping to go see a game this year. Don't think I'll waste the time seeing they're bound to be horrible again ....

        • I thought Jordan Lewis was better last year. Maybe Willie Henry too. Jake outright shit the bed occasionally playing out of position.

I'm counting on drastic improvement before the season even begins. There's enough clay on the roster to mold into a good football team.

            • And having a sensible approach. Last year we went into the season with a new press-coverage philosophy and a position coach who had never coached corners before.

Oh, they'll be entertaining. Who can resist seeing Derrick Green tiptoe into a pile of players and fall down at first contact? I am personally looking forward to Jake Rudock's reaction to getting crunched because A.J. Williams was playing matador at TE. When Shane Morris comes in to replace Rudock, I'll be glued to my set to see if he throws his first TD or his ninth INT.

                  • M's awful '09 - '11 classes are pretty much the past. M should be a solid 8-4 program going forward!!!

                    • I'm a skeptic but I think your analysis is fair, for the most part.

I'd take exception to the similarity you offer b/t SF and M in a rebuilding mode regarding "badass lineman." Harbaugh had the luxury at SF of plugging in lineman from the draft that would be immediate contributors.

None of the recruits M is targeting or already has commitments from as linemen, defense or offense, won't be immediate contributors. So there is that.

Harbaugh had Frank Gore on the roster as well. M dos not have a comparable power back. It has power backs but no one on that level.

Morris or Ruddock, the likely starters, aren't Colin Kaepernick to start with.

Finally, Anquan Bolden. Does M have anybody even remorely close to that skill level on the WR roster. Nope.

So, Harbaugh is dealing with the M roster he has on offense. There's some talent but it is by no means equivalent to what he was working with when he hit the ground running at SF.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                      • I think they can win 7 games because the coaching will be much improved, but the players are the same.

That was year two at Stanford.

                          Harbaugh's record at Stanford:

                          2007 4-8

                          2008 5-7

                          2009 8-5

                          2010 12-1

Sorry guys deleted the post I made which Jeff is referring to because I made a mistake in which class Harbaugh actually drafted.

To explain, I mentioned that I saw similarities between the 2011 9ers and the 2015 Michigan squad. First, both teams have decent talent. Second, both teams seem to have a premium put on the oline. Lastly, the 9ers drafted Navarro Bowman in 2010, along with Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis. I like our prospects with Jonathan Jones and Devin Bush.

Per Wiki - "....In the first round of the 2010 draft the 49ers moved up two picks by trading their #13 pick and 4th Round pick to the Denver Broncos to move up to pick #11, with which they selected offensive tackle Anthony Davis from Rutgers. Six picks later, the 49ers again chose to solidify their offensive line by selecting top-rated guard Mike Iupati out of Idaho."

I admit it was a bit of a stretch to compare the 2011 9ers to this Michigan squad but hey, fuck it.
                              Monkeys don't sell bananas.
