10 years ago, I would have said, Yep, hell, if JH had been hired following the RR debacle (like should have happened and might have without Brandon), I would have said a big YEP. But now, I'm closer to Hannibal's outlook.

Hope, for me, has been vanquished when it comes to M football.

I'll believe it when I see it but the Harbaugh hire sure helps believing.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    • It's said that no coach should simply trust the star system, but I think the reality is that if you recruited according to it and it alone, classes full of four-stars will yield better players than classes full of three-stars. Like any mass system for rating things, it's going to get some wrong but most right. And, in the end, it's only a starting point. A lot of those three-stars who blew up were guys in the right situation, with a good coach.

        Hoke's 2013 class says hi.

If recruiting stars were even close to a sure thing, Hoke would still be here regardless of how terrible a coach he was.

        • Can't say I have any sympathy for Weber. If you dance with the devil, you're gonna get fucked. I hope Michigan uses this incident to at least lock down Cass Tech going forward. I have no idea what JH's recruiting style is but some negative recruiting can be useful in certain situations.

            • You implied they were relatively close. I still disagree.

              • All I know is 4* RBs are little more than grist for the mill. Make a hole, they will run through it. No hole, no rushing success.

I do. It's gotta be tougher when some of those big early lessons in life have to be learned on such a big stage. Lacks the luxury to fuck up quietly before becoming a public figure, but that's the nature of it. Anyhow, I would like to think that JH's staff won't do that to any kids. Is there an example of it in Michigan's past?

Because no matter the topic at hand your purpose here is to disagree.

To clarify, I am suggesting that Michigan should use the Weber situation to negatively recruit the hell out of OSU.

                      • I don't think they even need to use it. No one around the Detroit PSL is going to forget it anytime soon.

                        • Sure. I got that, and I fully agree. There are above-board ways to make clear that while both sides talk about football family, there are significant differences in what that means for each. I just wanted to make sure. And I do genuinely think that, over time, not treating kids like that is a comparative advantage, both for recruiting and overall. Not that it's gonna sink Meyer -- he'll be fine doing his thing. But this is what's right for Michigan and should be considered more than lip service.

Yup. The Ballad of Mikey Weber is gonna be a classic local folk song.

                              • Drayton helped get Weber to sign with Ohio State on Wednesday. Thursday, Drayton took a job with the Chicago Bears. Drayton is a good coach and good guy making a life choice for his family and career. But what should happen to Weber?

Amusing structure to this reaction piece: OK this guy screwed over Mike Weber, because life's tough and you have to roll with the punches, but we'll bury that that the bottom of this piece and first here's 1200 words on what a great guy he is, this guy the just screwed over an 18-year-old...
