They were willing to ride it out with Harris when he looked like he was coming, but when didn't come up for the M game on an unofficial, I think they decided to go for a bird in hand, so to speak. Weber always really liked OSU and Hoke's firing was a fair enough excuse for a decommit.

We'll see how the Weber/Harris thing plays out, but I've been told by M fans that they don't need Weber as their RB depth is better than OSU's, so presumably neither recruit is a must-have.

QB is the issue, but that's also a position where you really want to see them in person. If they can pluck Rosen, super, but I'd guess JH will settle for Malzone and try to get a top-shelf guy next year that he can personally evaluate.
UM actually already has a 2016 QB. Messiah deWeaver. I personally didn't think much of him, but teams don't typically offer a guy that early unless they like him. But that was the old regime. So they could conceivably recruit over him. As for Malzone, I actually like him. Obviously Rosen is better, but that's not a bad situation.

    • Yeah, JH is going to recruit his own QB in 2016. There are a lot of positions I'd recruit out of Trotwood, but QB wouldn't be high on the list.

I'm actually Hack's phantom account. I think I'm supposed to say you're gay, or something like that?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

          • I've backed way off Hack lately. He's had a tough go of it.

He spent 10 years working as a go-go boy pole dancer in Bangkok in order to put himself through bartenders' school, twice.

Before the gravity of the hire actually sets in for OSU, I've got another $500 that says Harbaugh beats Meyer in AA this fall.

I'd be in for $50. I don't own a yacht, but I do have a bathtub. That's like a body of water, right?

Edit: And I think it's a homerun hire. I just think OSU wins next year due to the QB situation at Michigan and OSU returning a lot of their team from this season that is young. I'm basically betting that Shane Morris is beyone repair and that your redshirt freshman (forget the name) is good, but not great. And Malzone will be good, but too young.

                • Did we have a wager this year, OP? I recall you nixing it and then wanting to re-up the wager when Braxton went down. I forget if I formally accepted or not. I'm sure it's on the Ohio State thread somewhere.

                  • Yes, I shot across your bow in the Ohio thread, it went unanswered, Prime2 waits for no man.

I can understand the lack of confidence in Morris. He's been a disappointment, but at the same time, he hasn't had a QB guy like Harbaugh as his coach. I'm not saying he's going to eventually be an All Big Ten or All American, but I'm going to wait and see how he's going to respond to some "coaching up" by Harbaugh before I declare him a failure.

Wilton Speight (the name you didn't know) by all reports, had a good red shirt freshman year, and may be able to provide some competition in the spring. He was considered a "steal" when he was signed, so we will see.

Alex Malzone was Michigan's "Mr. Football", and is a doggone good football player. Youth and inexperience will likely be his only weakness. I am very optimistic about what he can do if he takes Harbaugh's coaching to heart. The kid has all the tools to be a very good QB.

                        Last, Hack is still gay.

Agree on the Speight and Malzone parts of your post. Obviously don't know on Speight yet, but could be good. And then next year Malzone will be a true freshman, which 99% of the time can't be relied on (heck, Harbaugh redshirted Andrew Luck). As for Morris, though, I'm sure he'll have a dramatic increase in the level of quality of coaching he'll receive, but I know what I saw last year. There's a difference between an okay QB getting better coaching to become a good QB. I just don't know if he can go from what he was last year to anything more than a below average B1G QB. Hopefully for his sake I'm wrong though, because he seems like a good kid.

                          • If Speight and Morris end up at 1 & 2 on the depth chart, I would expect Malzone to be red shirted. If Malzone is the kind of QB I think he is, he could be the starter as early as 2016. That would not shock me at all.

I also expect Bellomy to transfer. I doubt he will be able to earn a spot on the 3-deep.

                            • You were so close. OP...

Talent is a plum rooster right now, sitting on $500 of my cash...probably taking the whole extended family to Golden Corral to celebrate.

With Miller gone, Hoke has a chance in Columbus and a gentlemen is always given a chance to win his cash back, rule #507, look it up.
I made some sort of reference about you pushing in your chips after hitting the flop or something while I had an over pair to the board....and you then said, "we'll pick this up later" or something. Bah.

Oh well. As for 2014, almost certainly, but I want to know who my QB is. I realize I'm probably giving away $500 because by mid-season the offer will be off the table.

                                Miller-Barrett-Jones, you can't lose?
