Dantonio was able to bring in players who were not John L. Smith recruits, and they were able to develop into 4th and 5th year players. He now has a program which can reload when players graduate. The program has stability after seven years of consistent growth.

    • Of the remaining uncommitteds, the one I want most is Roseboro. I HOPE for KLS, but I think we have a good chance for Roseboro, and we surely need him. Last cycle and now half of this cycle have shown a weakness in recruiting defensive linemen.

Is there a lesson to be learned among the group of naysayers here, of which I am a member?

I do think building depth and stability is a huge factor in the ability of a football program to thrive. Maybe it's impact possibly a bit underestimated.

Time. I dunno. Still think Brady may not be the right guy but would hate a start over if he wins less than 7 games ... Entirely possible.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • If he wins less than 7, that's exactly what has to happen. With that schedule, I just don't see it though.

          • Cole had long passed George Campbell on 24/7's top 247 board.

            • Is Sparty still dominating instate recruiting??

I agree with this fully. He is officially a DE, but he has obvious DT size. He would make up for whiffing on Malik McDowell.

The other guy that I want really badly is KLS. WDE is a weak spot and recruiting hasn't been very good there.

Hoke is missing the "consistent growth" part so far. Last year's team was no better than the shitshow that got RichRod canned.

                  • I think that's probably the case with MSU, sure, although that's of course not what I meant. Furthermore RichRod wasn't here long enough to do that much damage, as the seniors in Hoke's first year were still Carr recruits. Then again, we're sitting here looking up at MSU, and although I agree that a few head-to-head battles are good and important, it certainly is important to get back to the point where top in-state recruits going Sparty are not just a minority but genuinely an outlier. Michigan should get all of them save for the odd MSU legacy and the kids with academic/off-the-field issues. That's on reason it has dominated the rivalry over the decades.

If the suggestion is that Hoke needs 7 years, well, I'm glad my interest in the basketball program is more than a passing one.

                    • After Lewan and Denard, who did RR recruit that was All B10 (including 2nd)? Jeremy Gallon, Jake Ryan, Roy Roundtree? Potentially Devin Gardner.

That really is about it, he did start the '11 class which ended up a bust with the 'process' where he landed Blake Countess & Hoke landed Frank Clark late in that class. That's about it, that's 3 full classes including parts of two others. In full, that's about about the typical amount of talent in just over one of Hoke's classes. The cupboard was bare...

Even 'decent', 'average' talents were very scarce in RR's tenure, guys who are 'decent' like Thomas Gordon who can play his spot well enough and not be a weakness but isn't All B10 material.

                      • Reasonable arguments to make were it not for how easy it was to observe the coaching staff squandering what talent it had. IMO you let the coaches prove they're getting the most out of what they got before you complain about the players.

                        • I sometimes think WM and I are the only ones who actually look at past recruiting classes to see how putrid they were. The 2010 class had 27 kids. Only 5 contributed much of anything - and one of those is Hagerup. RichRod did a shitload of damage during his stay in AA. Dantonio has had very little attrition during his tenure.

Perhaps you could take a course in reading comprehension. You often infer what I do not imply.

He'll need to bulk up quite a bit to play DE... 24/7 has him listed at 225 lbs. Rivals and Sam Webb (Scout?) list him at 210 lbs. May play OLB in college.

                              • He's 6-4, 6-5. He'll easily be able to get to 255-260.
