There's a man who oozes competence. He's not particularly folksy. He doesn't need to "speak to the base" -- in fact, he never really seems overly comfortable using "Ohio". He just produces results. BOOOORRRRRING!
Anyway, it doesn't look like the OSU-M hoops battles are going away any time soon. They had the best classes for 2014 in the conference -- well, and Maryland. Uggh. OSU is going to have a great class in 2015 while M is a bit thin on numbers, but then in 2016 OSU will be thin on numbers and M is looking to have a really good class.
Good times.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

But srsly, it seems like every year I go in thinking ``this year is gonna be the REAL test for Beilein''. Last year it was does he fizzle as a favorite and can he adjust to having elite players. This year it was gaining toughness when the toughest guy had left. Next year it's what he can do with a freshman frontcourt (for fuck's sakes/McGary/NCAA/the rest of you fuckers so are damn lucky about that). I'm not going to pencil in next year's Michigan for huge success given that bullshit, but I do know there's going to be some awfully good backcourt play, and getting to the Sweet 16 will be a pretty notable success and proof that Beilein is bulletproof. You're going to have to have bigs if you want to beat us, and I'm not talking Brandon Dawson. Or Amir Williams. It's amazing that I find myself saying it but I hope we can get away with Irvin at the 4 when needed. I'll even be ready for the 5-man pass/shoot offense if we can get away with it on the glass. Not my preference but for next year it makes sense to go small when we can.

Chatman, Wilson, Donnal will largely make up the 4-5... Those are the only positions that worry me.
Irvin is a 3 who M could probably could get away with at the 4 in 7-8 games next season when they are playing a team without a prototypical PF. The issue isn't offense, he can play the GR3 role on offense (this is essentially a 3-4 guard offense) but he'd be abused much worse than GR3 on the boards and by post-up PF's. Chatman and Wilson are both in the vicinity of 6'8" and hopefully can at least keep PF's from abusing them on the boards.

Wilson and Chatman look less likely than Irvin to be able to do that at this point if you go by measurables since they are listed at the same weight but younger. Irvin has had a year in the system and will have had the chance to make the sophomre leap. But it would be fantastic if any two of Chatman, Wilson, Doyle and Donnal prove they belong.

On offense M's needs are mostly filled...
They'll want a WR but they've a ton of underclassman receivers right now (8) and WR's usually help early. They'd probably like at least 1 but it isn't a glaring need... After just 2 OL in '14, imo they need a 3rd OL in '15. Mason Cole reportedly (early enrolee) is looking like a tackle and a potentially very good one (originally thought as a tweener) so that slightly softens the need for OT's. I always prefer OT's to OG's so the preference for me would be for an OT... Running back is the only other need, we've discussed that already but I think they'd like to add one if it's one they like but won't reach for one...
On defense they haven't landed a DL yet and probably would take 1 more CB and an OLB or 2... I see the DL's needs as two DE's and one DT, though obviously the staff could see things differently...
