    • Come on down, Dave Cone. Your scholarship awaits.

I dare you to post this on mgoblog

I for one am glad that we can still beat out Pitt and Wake Forest for recruits. We haven't quite hit the rock bottom point where we are eagerly watching a press conference where a low 3-star kid chooses between South Florida and Michigan.

        • It's official.

I think it's safe to say that Urban Meyer and Nick Saban won't be working too hard to pry this guy away from us.

          • For Nussmeier to offer him this early he must have seen something when Malzone threw for him. I like that he wants Michigan badly. You never know:

            • I've seen him play twice in person. One of those times I was on the state finals chain crew that covered his sideline.

He has a strong arm, and he comes from a very good program. He's been coached very well. Maybe my "Dave Cone" comment was not fair, but he's not the next Tom Brady either.

He probably has the potential to be in the Matt Gutierrez/Scott Driesbach category. Some talent, but not a star.

Fits the mold for the new Michigan Football to a tee.

              • Funny you should use Tom Brady as a comparison. Tom Brady wasn't the next Tom Brady when he arrived either. All I really know is that he really wanted to be a Wolverine, and that's almost rare anymore. My guess is that he'll work hard and won't feel entitled. I'll pull for him.

                • I've given up caring too much about recruiting. I prefer five star dudes, but if they don't develop, it doesn't much matter.

                  • I was really surprised that MSU only had one player drafted - Dennard - for all we hear about their player development.

                    • Plan C, D recruit. Beat out Mac schools and Pitt. M will need an elite QB in '16 unless Speight is better than advertised, all their top targets went elsewhere early. Sad state of the state of in-state talent when he's a #3-#5 recruit in-state...

Superior talent than David Cone who was just an awful offer who was never Div I caliber.

                      • Really wish there was a way for M to have redshirted Shane Morris in '13, that's why you take a QB in every class so you don't waste a season of Shane Morris not redshirting him.

                        • Scouting services like him more than i thought: 4*/#15 QB at Scout, 3*/#16 QB at Rivals, 3*/#21 at 247 sports. Pretty sure those don't include dual threats. Seen very little of him so far (but read a few scouting reports) but will work on finding & watching highlights, which will help me form a more informed opinion.

                          • Should have an updated recruiting board next weekend if I have time, lots of new names I'd add.

Are you saying that Nussmeier essentially "threw in the towel" on QB recruiting for 2015 already? It's only mid-May. Will Malzone be the only QB offered in the class?

Looking at his film, I see he's accurate and calm in the pocket. He doesn't hang on to the ball, but makes quick decisions and hits receivers in stride. Doesn't have skills that jump out at you, but could be the kind of QB that keeps moving the chains.

                              • I've seen very little flim on him and what I saw was awhile ago, I really don't have much of an opinion on him yet. I need to watch more film. I just know M offered more than a handful of QB's before him and settled on him after everyone else they offered went elsewhere...

Some scouting reports I've read on him weren't particularly optimistic. He certainly has potential to be a B10 caliber QB and would've eventually imo received offers from programs like Iowa, Purdue, Sparty, Maryland, Rutgers, etc.
