the SEC will fight an early signing period. They have a big advantage with the weather and a February signing date.
What I'd like to see is a signing date of about August 15 for early signees, with those who sign early assured of a four year committment by the school. February signees would have only a year-to-year scholarship.

Thanks for that article link, Pasadena.
From the article:
"I know the [Southeastern Conference] coaches are not in favor of changing the recruiting calendar," Kentucky's Mark Stoops said in January. "If things start moving up, it changes the way we've been doing things for a long time."
That's exactly why we need a change, dipwad ....I don't always roll a joint, but when I do, its usually my ankle

Warm weather schools don't like giving up any advantage that they have. And the SWC already walks the recruiting rules tightrope anyway, so at least an early signing period might bring this back to a semi-level playing field.I don't always roll a joint, but when I do, its usually my ankle

I agree Liney (though I suspect you meant SEC schools). That is why I think it is a good idea to install a benefit for the players who sign early. The SEC gives year-to-year scholarships, while the B10 gives the 4-5 year scholarships. The 5*'s may not have to worry about when to sign, but a lot of 4*'s would like the earlier period. I just don't see why the rest of colllege football has to let the SEC get one extra recruiting class every 4 years like they do now. You have to wonder why UM has to take only 16-18 players in two straight years and Alabama takes 25 or so every year.
This would be a legitimate concern for the players' union that Northwestern and other teams have proposed.

The firing of Al Borges and the hiring of Doug Nussmeier is going to pay big dividends. Definitely the most important off-season move that was made. Here's a quote from Cass Tech's Mike Weber:
"It's definitely changed since they fired the last guy and brought in Coach Nussmeier," Weber told 247sports.com's Steve Lorenz this week. "I like talking to him. I believe what he tells me and he's someone I wouldn't mind playing for. I was kind of disappointed earlier in the process because Michigan was the school I grew up rooting for and things kind of faded away. It's picked up a lot lately and it's becoming clear to me that I'm a player they want and that feels good."I'll let you ban hate speech when you let me define hate speech.
