I'd like to see at least one of this crop of young DL emerge ahead of schedule instead of most of them being behind schedule. Ross hasn't taken the leap expected this year. It's a mixed record for Mattison at Michigan so far.

The defense this year is crap and the only reason why it is statistically attractive is because of the abysmal caliber of competition. Our defensive line is basically trash and almost everyone else is mediocre. Our linebackers suck in pass coverage. OSU will expose Mattison again with another embarrassment, just like Indiana did.

Willie Henry looks like a good young DT for next season, Ondre Pipkins was just starting to impress me before the injury... Does Mattison get any credit for Ross, Jake Ryan, Cameron Gordon & Desmond Morgan? They are a good set of LB'ers that'll be very good next season...

Defensive backs are quite young after the starters; Countess, Taylor, Avery & Gordon... We'll find out how good guys like Stribling, D Thomas, Wilson, etc are next season.

You guys need to go see a doctor for some happy pills or something to cure your depression or malaises or whatever is making you so down. Michigan's defense is going to give up that many points to NU, huh? That's not the part of the Michigan team that worries me and most others.

You can only play the teams that are on your schedule. And sometimes defenses helped or hindered by the situations that the offense leaves for them on the field.

That doesn't make Mattison either a saint or a sinner, though. I dunno. I loved the hire and he did such a wonderful job with the '11 defense. I support bend/don't break this year. I think that Mattison is allowed to be less than perfect and some of the errors he's made (and, admirably in contrast to Borges, took responsibility for) are magnified beyond what's reasonable because the offense is so terrible. But I also think that there's cause to wonder what could be done better on that side too.

I no way am I saying Mattison should be replaced. It's easy to imagine that there are many, many suitable replacements for Borges. That bar is low. Much higher if you want to do a better job than Mattison.

Why does everyone associated with Michigan have to be a 10 or a 1 in some peoples minds? I think Mattison has been an 8 this year. He has some flaws but has done yeomans work. Borges on the other hand.....

Who out here is social media savvy? Lets get these internet petitions going for his new Senate seat! Who knows the big donors that can lure DB into the race with cash like a rat to garbage? Several of us non-conservatives posting here would gladly put a GOP Brand-On! yard sign up, or work the phone banks. Brand-On! could claim a wide coalition of political spectrum backs him (with all the accuracy of his stadium attendance figures). He's a uniter not a divider! No new taxes (however, a new PSL will now be charged for everything, but its not a tax.)! Existing taxes will now be "dynamic", meaning they will never go down (its your safety net.)! You will get everything you want plus more that you don't need (provided your name is Athletic Department.)! He'll unretire senior citizens to reduce Social Security costs but they'll get to wear the prestigious "20th Century Legends" patch! Plus they'll be allowed to buy unlimited $6 bottles of water with their Bridge cards! He'll cut unemployment by not allowing any people into the USA anymore (US passports will now carry the ticket disclaimer that re-entry is not allowed). Best of all, his method of hiring/firing critical personnel is a system without peer or flaw (just ask him)! Run Dave Run!! (with apologies to Forrest Gump)

Shaun Crawford is good -- FAST good. No harm in offering, especially since he has more than a year until his NLOID. However, he's been a M lock from Day 1. No way he's flipping unless the SS Hoke goes full on Titantic. And we all know with the Braintrust in place, he's sailing for clear waters.

Crawford grew up a Wolverine, would be an impressive steal by Urban despite Crawford being an Ohio kid unless Hoke gets on the hot seat after the '14 season.
