  • MSU had a good day in recruiting. It's being attributed to their new coordinator, Curtis Blackwell. Apparently he is very popular in Detroit. Anyone know much about him?

    • I think Alabi was a Plan B for us; I recall the name. Were we wanting Campbell?

      • Alabi was the only one M might've wanted, not sure if he was offered.

        • Cole WR is the one who M really wants in-state, the rest is a lot of marginal B10 talent.

in other words, 2015 looks to be a down year at this point for in-state talent?

            • Yup. There might be some guys that come out of the wood work after their seasons as quality prospects but early it's a pretty terrible year for in-state talent. I could M might only taking 3 guys in-state.

              • The only downside I see to that is that it gives state a chance to regain some amount of recruiting cred within Michigan HS football. Unless there is absolutely no room due to a small recruiting class size combined with a waaaay down year for instate talent, I'd prefer that U of M gets the majority each year of the top 5 or 6 kids in Michigan.

                • M will probably only offer 4 or 5 in-state recruits. I'd expect a couple M caliber recruits to have strong junior seasons and start to get noticed.

                  • Blackwell was going to give MSU a bump the next year or two regardless. That'll even out over time after that, especially as ex UM players take over Sound Mind & Body.

                    • As we continue to lose population, the HS talent in Michigan continues to fall. There used to be about a dozen real tough football conferences in the state, where a lot of D-1 players played. Today, there are maybe 3-4 real decent conferences, and the talent there is sparse at best.

                      • Wangler expected to decide today or tomorrow between M & PSU. Brother (walk-on true freshman) and sister are already at UofM, family is very obviously huge Wolverine fans. Excellent student. Undersized as a linebacker but an awfully good athlete. Tough to see him turning M down given what insiders who talked to him very early in the process have shared.

                          • Jared Wangler is the newest Wolverine. Let's hope he grows a couple of inches. After getting a Runyan and a Wangler we need a Wheatley.

The Penn St. kid is not the "rumor" either, that was McDowell.
