Don't be so sure of that---supposedly the kid has great hands and runs very good routes. Could see some playing time as a "possession" receiver a'la Wes Welker, if he puts some muscle on those bones--he's 6'2" but just 190 lbs. He also comes in with a bit of an advantage in that he played at Warren DeLaSalle with QB Shane Morris.

After the basketball game, I'll try to find the quotes from Wangler I read earlier today, as well as some video. Very impressive, intelligent kid---Harvard wanted him, which speaks well of his ability as a STUDENT-athlete.

      • well if that happens, I would be most pleased ... I am glad you didn't argue he made up for the loss of SuccessfulQuon

in case it was unclear to anyone, this is John Wangler's son:

Michigan picked up a preferred walk-on commitment tonight as wide receiver Jack Wangler chose to Go Blue. He talks at length about his decision.

          • Here's the quote from Wangler:

"I will make an impact at Michigan. It might not be right away and I know I'm going to have to work harder than I ever have, but this is something I realized before I made the decision. I'm coming in knowing I have to compete, but I'm also coming in knowing I can compete and become the player I want to be if I work at it."

            • Josh Helmholt's take on Wangler from this past June:

WR Jack Wangler...: Wangler has put a lot of work in this off-season with his Maximum Exposure teams, going head-to-head against some of the top defensive backs in the country. Wangler is always going to be a possession receiver; but his speed is coming along, and he has been timed as low as the 4.5 range for the 40-yard dash. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Wangler is a physical receiver and a technician when it comes to route-running.

              • Another quote (from Scout) on Wangler after one of last summer's camps:

One of the more underrated prospects in attendance last Saturday at the RAS camp in Angola, Indiana, was Warren (MI) De La Salle wide receiver Jack Wangler. He caught everything thrown his way and had the ability to get open.

                • Jason Avant was a great "hands" receiver. Not blazing speed, and not the first choice on most passing routes, but when they threw his way, he caught the ball most all the time.

                        • If that kid ditches the boy band look and goes single-bar fask mask and grows a moustache and sideburns like Biletnikoff, I may even root for him!

                            • Best series of playoff games ever. Ravens-Stillers might have equaled it if they played more than twice. But that's mostly Stillers fault. Fucking Denver.
