While I have not watched that many "commitment" shows, I am wondering if the latter part of the Derrick Green announcment signals a morphing of the "3 hat" scenerio to something akin to a poorly scripted realtiy tv program. In the back of my mind I see a kid announcing his choice to attend USC by leaving the stage and reentering a few minutes later riding a white horse and dressed as a trojan.

LOL but that's how they do it for acting scholarships, right? You gotta sell yourself on that horse. Or, if you're a Spartan, you really have to make the television audience believe in your relationship with your little-boy apprentice...

Thanks. Definitely room for nuance in there, but recently someone passed along that insight to me and it makes a ton of sense. And on my own I kinda quietly salute the youngsters for thumbing their noses at what we tend to think of as ``careers''. I'd be looking for another way myself...

Overall, you can only judge kids according to the world THEY are growing up in. If you judge them according to the world YOU grew up in, you're decreasing your chances of understanding why they are who they are and all that.

I'll give you some acknowledgement there. I'm so glad I'm not a parent today. So much more bad influence around. People's brains (not just kids) are really twisted these days, and common sense is long forgotten.

My son's turning 5 in May. It's going to get a lot harder from here. For him, too. I just have to be a parent in this crazy environment. He's gotta figure out how to become an adult in it.

Georgia, FSU and UCLA have been to John Glenn HS to offer D'Mario Jones. Too little too late, but it's a good sign some of the heavier hitter came in with offers to this kid. Could be a sleeper.
