  • How are we doing with open slots? I thought based on our early recruiting that at this point we would be saving more slots for the super-high caliber guys?

    • Dwayne Stanford WR and Adolphus Washington SDE had the Buckeyes as leaders with JT as coach, M has a better chance today than they did yesterday with the dual who will likely go to the same school

      • M has plenty of open slots; right now they can take 21 (18 open + your allowed to go 3 over) with 12 spoken for. 13 commits if Wayne Morgan is a Wolverine on June 2nd. We'll find out about Gant soon too which might cause other DB's to speed up their timetable..

M still has significant needs (QB, RB, WR, OL x 3, S) so you'll see most news going forward at those areas. For the most part, M is doing very well in the region (Michigan & Ohio) at the positions they've filled up on. The areas of needs I listed above are largely 'national' prospects who will be harder pulls as they are more than a reasonable car ride away from Ann Arbor. You'll see more action at those positions above in June, July as a lot of the 'national' kids first get to visit Ann Arbor during this time frame.

        • I don't view QB or RB as a huge need. Throw 3 DTs on that list.

          • I agree with you at QB, but not so sure on RB. No one we have has me super excited so far, though Shaw could be good if he could ever stay healthy. Still, he's already a junior.

            • Shaw is a senior, Cox & Smith are Jr's, Toussaint & Hopkins Sophomores, Rawls & J Hayes Fr... I think that is everyone...

Anthony Thomas is going to be Hoke's 'ideal' running back, a guy who can break a tackle (or 2) and has the speed for big play ability. RB is a 'need' but if they really like who they get, they'll only take one super... Agree DT is a huge need, they'll take at least two...

Sounds like Chris Wormley SDE/DT is possibly going to make a June decision, that is an OSU vs M battle.

              • Yes Shaw is a senior--I was looking at an old roster.

                • Tressel just handed Wormley to U-M.

                  • I wouldn't count Wormley as a Michigan recruit just yet, but the situation in O-Lie-O had to have made Michigan a lot more attractive to not just Wormley, but to others as well.

I'm glad we got our house in order quickly. And I'm finding myself more and more pleased with the Hoke hiring.

                    • Amazingly enough, Michigan couldn't have timed the Hoke hire better. With all of this going down at OSU, better to have an open book like Hoke than someone like Rodriguez who already had so much negative stink (real or imagined) around him.

                      • M certainly has led for Wormley (who doesn't speak much) and there are rumors circling on scout that he's close to deciding.

                        Comment

                        • I hope that's true.

All I'm saying is that there are a lot of people (especially at Rivals) who are gushing about how this is going to be some huge windfall of talent for Michigan. I don't necessarily see it that way. Yeah, I think Michigan will pick up a few signings as a result of all this, but I doubt that its going to change the balance of power in one season.

Interesting conversation I saw somewhere (apologize if I saw it in here but forgot) that asked about how things must be in the Mike Boren household today. We were told that Justina transferred, because of a "lack of family values" in Ann Arbor. What family values did he learn in Columbus? How to lie and cheat .. and cause as much embarrassment as possible to your university?

Justina may not have liked being called a "larda$$", and Rich Rodriguez may have been the wrong choice to coach Michigan ... but ... is he really pleased with the outcome of all this?

Will Zach's chest-thumping this year be as meaningful?

Hey Mike Boren: There's still time for your son Jacoby.

                          • I'm not saying I wouldn't take a RB, but only if he's a super.

                            Comment

                            • Did Gant actually get a committable offer? He sounds like a plan B kind of guy. In a year where we probably won't have any room for those.

                              Comment

                              • Sounds like a legit offer and M isn't offering a lot of other safety prospects. He's pretty high on their safety board that is returning interest.
