  • Maurice Hurst NT (3-star, Mass) recently got his offer, one he really wanted. He's got offers from M, Ohio, Nebraska, Boston College, MSU and North Carolina. Expected to visit soon and will be on commit watch when he does...

M will turn the heat up on Green and M should be in his top group.

    • Hurst is a definite Plan C guy for UFM. They probably could have had his verbal after the Spring Game (rumored he tried to commit and was told to hold off). It seems like UFM likes Munger better. I think they also like this Hill kid from one of the Carolinas better, too.

      Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

      • Maurice Hurst Jr is a plan B guy for M but I like his athletic ability (he plays RB for his HS team at 285 lb's) and potential to grow into a disruptive NT. Son of the DB for the Patriots of the same name and has been hoping for some time to land a M offer...

M's NT options were difficult to find with mutual interest, there just weren't any in the midwest and their top national ones they didn't feel could land...

After this M's need are mostly are both a 3-tech & SDE (Poggi, Vanderdoes, Mathis, Augusta), WR (Treadwell), RB (Green)... They are still looking to add a DB, likely a tall corner (McQuay)... They'd be at 24 then and likely finished...

Really love Jonathan Allen DE (likely 5-star imo), you guys will be really stacked at DE/DL if you land him and Hill.

        • I agree on Hurst. He's plenty good. I think both schools are at the stage where they're aiming higher, which is a good thing. But I don't think many OSU fans would be disappointed if he ended up in the class.

I'm not overly optimistic about Allen or Hill. The staff liked Neal better than Allen (and Neal's recruitment is continuing to blow up) and Hill, I think, has grade issues. But we'll see. They need a DT as Price is likely an OG.

          • Kevin Grady is the last 5 star Michigan has landed.

Like the NFL, I think decent RB's can make for a very successful running game as long as the offensive line is great. Even if we don't land Treadwell there is absolutely no reason for a melt down, but I'm sure some people will.

            • Michigan football has played among the elites by out working the rest of the B10, better coaching and good player development.

Dunno about that -- LC had some great recruiting classes. But to be elite means excelling in every area: coaching, working, development, recruiting. Gotta hit on all cylinders, and hopefully the program is moving towards that.

              • Will Campbell was a 5 star

                  M will get Treadwell.

                  • As was Mallett; haven't had the best of luck with our most recent ones...
Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here.

But, if it is for a certain kid, you don't want him, IMO. Unless you want kids that are afraid of competition. USC, e.g., is probably going to add another top shelf RB to THIS class.
We fans have a thousand ways of justifying every outcome. A bird in hand is definitely more valuable than two in the bush. Isaac is an elite RB, and losing him to SC hurts. It's not a fatal blow, but it still hurts.

                      • Per Scout's rankings (they always have more 5* than Rivals, fyi) M's classes:

                        Year: Ranking (5*s)
                        2002: 19th (Gabe Watson)
                        2003: 8th (Woodley, Burgess, Paul)
                        2004: 5th (Henne)
                        2005: 2nd (Slocum, Grady)
2006: 9th (Schilling, Mouton, Slocum, Boren, Graham)
                        2007: 10th (Warren, Mallet)
                        Dark Ages: Who Cares

So, I think from 2002-07 that USC, Florida and probably LSU were the only schools that clearly outrecruited M per "rankings". There were probably a 5-6 other schools with comparable overall classes. I think it's hard to judge Mallet b/c of the RichGOD thing. Obviously, the kid could play. But regardless of whether their 5* panned out, M landed a lot of them. M has always been able to recruit. What Hoke is doing isn't that much better than what M has always done -- it's just that you have the immediacy of RichGOD horrors rightly affecting your perception.

Correct. No recruit is fatal. I just find the "silver lining" crowd funny -- and, believe me, they're around for every school. To wit, Lewis Neal decommits -- "this will open up a spot for a truly elite player!" Idiots.

                          • Awesome and "timely" analysis re recruiting: http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2...school-recruit

What's particularly interesting, to me at least, is that M slightly out-recruited OSU (per Rivals) from 2002-09.

                            • Hoke isn't outdoing this top classes from Carr and Moeller, but he's pretty close this year. With Isaac, this might have made the best class (guru-wise) that we have ever had. If the class finishes as expected, it will probably still be the best of the rivals star era.
