M will probably take at least a couple interior defensive lineman (NT, DT, SDE) in this class. In Mattison's defense there isn't much to differentiate the 3-tech (DT) and 5-tech (SDE), both are considered 'tackles' by the defensive staff and the staff is looking for very similar type of players from both positions... Guys like Strobel, Wormley could end up at either SDE or 3-tech/DT...
Other than Poggi, I don't see any interior d-lineman on M's radar that is returning much interest. There is still plenty of time for guys not on anyones radar to show up at camps this summer and earn an offer. Willis Henry for example got attention from BCS schools only after having a very strong senior season.Last edited by WM Wolverine; February 23, 2012, 02:49 PM.

We have Will Campbell for another year and Pipkins. Are there any other 1-techs on the roster, even? It's hard to imagine they don't want to chase another this year unless Pipkins is immune to injury and underperformance. Even just to push him in practice for chrissakes. Why would they just hand one of the most important positions on the defense to an incoming frosh? I thought Mattison doesn't see stars when he recruits...

Yes, I think M would like a NT type in this class but those beasts are hard to find and 3-tech's can sometimes move to NT...
It'll be interesting to see how the interior d-line shakes out after spring practices. Two deep of Campbell, Brink (injured in bowl game), Washington, Black and hopefully Pipkens is ready to contribute immediately as he's needed... Doesn't sound like Richard Ash will contribute in the short-term.
