  • I agree, Rob. I think we might be better off without him.

    • The flip side is, we are thin enough at WR that he might crack the 2-deep sooner rather than later. I certainly wouldn't turn him away, but I have faith that Hoke and his staff don't suffer primadonnas. Hoke is about everything being 100% team oriented, and I'm sure he makes that clear to kids before they sign with him.

      • I look at mostly rivals and 247sports ratings, then the kids highlights and offer list before grading them. The star rankings I give the kids on the front page is my own, not rivals or anyone elses...

Concur on the southern bias by rivals, recruits from the north do awfully well (a decent margin better) in terms of growing into NFL draftees relative to their southern competition. I believe the study that showed this used rivals star ratings.

        • Jordan Payton as said above is 'open' ;not sure if M finished 2nd, 3rd or even 4th for him. UW, ND and Cal but I see another receiver in this class as a need and like Payton's talent level.

          • I have read where possilbly M will leave a couple of schollies open for next year.

From what I've read, you guys are all over him...have an in-home visit set up for Thursday already.

              • I thought his issue was staying close to home.

                • That's probably a factor...but he did take two separate trips to the midwest just a couple months ago.

                    So did Dunn.

                      • Our coaches may be going to see him, but I'll believe that he's interested in Michigan when I see him in a Michigan uniform.

                        • I think he's always been interested in Michigan. But now that Cal has lost the coaches he wanted to play for, they have become less attractive.

Payton is from LA isn't he? If he wanted to stay close to home, he'd be going to USC or UCLA. Berkeley is at least 6 hours away from LA.

                          • Sam Webb was my source for saying he wanted to stay closer to home, or that members of his family wanted him to stay closer to home. When he started wavering and considering ND, Webb said he thought Payton would go to Cal because of the home stuff I mentioned above.

                            • I guess 6 hours is still driving distance for the family, so maybe that is what he meant. I'm just surprised he isn't considering USC since they are right in his backyard. Or are they just loaded at WR right now?

                              • Wasn't Payton a USC verbal at one time?
