  • Correct. And, IMO, Derrick Green next year, too.

Meanwhile, I'm thrilled to get the likes of Dodson -- who is a nice OT, but not great -- b/c it's all hands on deck.

    • Talent - I'm thinking Kalis plays next year also, but not necessarily because of any lack of talent on the roster. From what I've seen of his videos, I just think he's that good. O-linemen have the most difficult transition to college ball, but Kalis has all the tools to make the transition. I've been impressed with is footwork and quickness. He moves very well for a big man.

I think that going forward, Brady Hoke is really going to focus on the trenches, more than on the superstar skill people, like hotshot receivers, QBs or WR's. I think he knows that those types will flow naturally once he establishes a dominant team on both sides of the ball in the trenches. That is what I plan to watch over the next couple of recruiting classes. To me, that is where he will find real success. And, I'm also coming around to the point of view that losing a stud RB like Dunn isn't as bad as losing a OL like Kalis. But, for selfish reasons, I want that stud RB too ... heh

      • After watching 2 years of Lydell Ross nonsense and then watching the difference Herron made to this year's team, I won't ever sell RBs short again.

I agree on Kalis. There's no way he's redshirting next year. I'd expect him to at least be in the two deep.

        • I'm sure Meyer's going to be building a fence around Ohio again, but I think there will still be some good players available as he recruits out of state. The task might be beating Dantonio to those kids. Must establish instate superiority again.

          • I think there's going to be enough good talent in Ohio that Meyer won't be able to corral it all. Yea, he's probably going to get the majority of the top talent, just like we get the majority of the top talent here in Michigan. But I also think that Meyer will be a player in national recruiting as well. He won't focus totally on ohio, and he will be a player in top talent nation wide. That's where we have to beat him, or at least bat .500 with him. Do that, and we'll be fine.

We seem to be well on the way to doing that, if this year is any indication.

                • UFM's recruiting approach will be very different from Coach Tressel's.

I think Liney is quite right -- he's going to go after the best players, wherever they are, and he's going to go after them at 100 mph. I still expect him to target a fair number of Ohio players, but there will be more players like Javon Ringer, Jerel Worthy, Mercilus, etc. The trick, heh, is figuring out which 3* is gold. For every Worthy, there's ten that didn't pan out. But, I suspect mining for 3* in Ohio won't really be M's problem -- it's going to be Dantonio's. Heh.

                  • I hate to be so agreeable with Mr. Talent, but I think that's correct. Michigan and ohio are going to be the big players in ohio, and I don't think Dantonio is going to be able to make a significant crack in that. I mean, just the rivalry itself gives Michigan an edge in ohio over MSU. That, and the fact that Dantonio is an a-hole, will work against them going forward.

                    • Sam Webb referenced a "big day tomorrow" with Dunn and the M staff on his Wednesday morning radio show; I think implying that they were doing their in-home visit yesterday. Anyone know of this or heard any news?

I missed most of his recruiting round-up today in my drive in, as the first few comments were about Standiford (sp?) then I had to hustle in to work.

                      • Apparently Hoke wasn't there. He's saving thatfor a bit. But dunns entire family (including grandparents and dymonte) were.

                            • I have to agree with those that said a stud offensive lineman is more important than a stud RB. With a great line, even an ok back can get solid yards. But with an ok line, even great backs can struggle. Plus, I expect that Toussaint will put up a really good year next year (barring injury) and that should encourage some kid from the 2013 class to come here and be ready for after Toussaint graduates.

As for Michigan vs Ohio battles, a lot depends on what offensive system Meyer wants to run. If he isn't running a "pro" offense, that could be a difference to some of the "can't miss" offensive recruits that are already thinking about their pro career. I know Rodriguez missed out on guys (specifically tall pro-style WR's, drop-back QB's and huge hulking OL) due to his offensive scheme.

There won't be any issue for Meyer with defensive players--he will obviously get the best Ohio has to offer.
